Posted a Dude's opinion piece on my blog about the Crimea crisis. Thoughts?

Good article my friend.

Unfortunately, the current UA authorities cannot just say 'fuck it' even though many Ukrainians encourage it, just because it would mean (and probably means) that the Eastern regions will be bitten off in time as well. Either that or they will vote to join Russia, as they've always been closer to it in mentality - for the same reasons as Western UA has always been closer to EU.

It's a double-edged sword and, as a Ukrainian who lives in Kiev, I just cannot abide.
On one hand, I cannot justify Putin's aggression towards Crimea, but even worse than that is the propaganda that is being spread about us Ukrainians, and specifically about those who joined Maidan for freedom. They were called idiots, fascists, separatists and whatnot - for no good reason. And it created a layer of hatred among the Russia population aimed at those who stood on Maidan.

On the other hand, I clearly see the situation. Every single step of our revolution has been done before and can be traced to Yugoslavia, Tunisia, Lybia and Syria. In fact, I have a lot of Bosnian and Serbian friends who see the situation like this:

And they have more than enough reasons to have this opinion.

It all comes down to who started the aggression first. And while I absolutely despise Russia's attitude towards Ukraine, our whole industrial sector as well as the national identity which we are so proud of today were both brought up by Russia back in the days of USSR. As bad as Russia can be, I think it is at the very least unfair to forget the good that came with the bad, or the other way around.

Knowing how USA behaves with foreign countries and researching about Arabian Spring, I just can't bring myself to pick the US side here. Unfortunately, in this situation we HAVE TO pick sides.
I see my friends, coworkers and relatives quarrel and fight over this choice and it breaks my heart. We're being torn in two as a nation, both by RU and US, and I feel like sooner or later I'm going to have to make a choice I don't ever want to make because it will forever condemn me in the eyes of those who made the opposite choice.

You make very good and logical assumptions in your article, but unfortunately none of them will help stop the spreading hatred and the thin line that will haunt this country for a long time.

All we can do now is pick the lesser of two evils to abide with. But people choose to fight over which of two evils is lesser. Fucking bummer, man. We've already lost Donnie. We've lost a shitload of Donnies. Seeing this will make any Dude turn into Walter.

Wow man, just wow. Blessings and best of luck Dude.

I can't even imagine being in the heart of this situation. I'll have to meditate about this before I can comment. It is easy to sit way over here and theorize about this, but where the dust gets kicked up it is a whole other ball game.

But yeah, I see no real win coming out of this, these are growing pains for civilization, just something we have to go through to get from here to there. The long arch of civilization is frustratingly slow, but progress is being made.

This aggression will not stand, man!

See the cartoon doesn't even include the CIA messing around in Iran even,

Good luck Dude it must be freaky sitting in the middle of what we're just seeing as something on the news.

thanks mate! I'm not really sure that separation is progress though. yes we have a tough history with Russia, but having dug deeper into this whole situation geopolitically, I completely understand Russia's current moves, even though they are disgusting to me as a Ukrainian.

might sound stupid or naive, but dudeism really helpsme in these tough times. being the way the dude is helps me be around Walters with different opinions all the time. Having talked to many people with different opinions over Russia and Ukraine, I've discovered a very important lesson in my life: sometimes truth hurts, badly. sometimes it goes against all of your lifetime principles and beliefs. sometimes it's just unfair to you and ugly to the whole world, but in the end of the day it's the truth which conssts of many small truths which are divided by different nations, peoples and classes. so whenever you meet a Walter  in your life, don't answer his aggression with your aggression. better think about why he's behaving like he is and try to put yourself in his place.

thanks!
Funny thing is, you get used to it in time.
but if you want to get the news about what's really going on, search every news on multiple sources. I analyze a single piece of news on Ukrainian, Russian, European and US media. want a surprise? EVERYBODY lies to a certain extent. or at the very least shows just enough truth to support the government's position :)

P.S. it's friday night, I'm home from a hangout, drunk, high and philosophical, so pardon me for the drama. life goes on :)

revgms, thank you again very much for caring enough to anayze and spread!
