Is it possible to block an entire subforum?

I'm guessing he's using the "show new posts since last visit" like I do and wants to put a thread/subforum on ignore.  I wish that was a common feature but another forum that I'm admin on doesn't have it either.  When I was a moderator there I once asked the other admins if I could put everyone on ignore but that just resulted in hysterical laughter.

Yes, this is how I browse the forum and I assumed everyone else does as well, otherwise how do you stay on top of so many sub-forums?

I don't want to block individual users because I'm only annoyed at the content being posted to a specific sub-forum, and I sure as hell don't want to censor anyone by suggesting they clam up or the subforum be deleted. I just don't want to be bothered with it.
