The Big Lebowski, himself, makes the list at No. 15. Although, as revealed in the movie, the money isn't actually his, per se.

But still, he accomplished more in his short, fictional, life than many others have aspired to.

Hold the phone!
No Jackie Treehorn?
I smell a rat.
Jackie draws a lot of water.
I think they conveniently shut out known pornographers.
Fucking typical.

Jackie could be living next door to the Dude these days. Most pornographers are struggling financially. It's hard to compete with all of the free "tube" sites online, plus the Internet is flooded with amateurs doing their thing.
There is also significantly less work for performers in the Valley, which is causing a lot of them to become escorts as well. Other performers, especially industry veterans, are retiring or scaling back their own work because more escorts in the business = greater chance of another HIV outbreak.

Interesting question.
Might just be an old saying but as a person who has worked in Info Tech all my life it's always said that the only sure bet is porn. Everything else is a gamble.

All the known pornographers that I've ever heard of seem to be OK though.
Larry Flint is said to be worth 400 million.

Hugh Heffner 43 million.

Not sure. but I'm betting that you never ever will go broke in the porn trade.

Wow, who woulda thought Larry was worth more than Hef? Tough times at the Mansion, indeed. This-a-here link says Bob Guccione (Penthouse) was worth $200 million. http://www.therichest.com/celebnetworth/celeb/bob-guccione-net-worth/ However, most of what I saw indicated that was in 1982 - before losing approximately that much, staging a minor come back, and then dying, alone, in 2010.

Economic cycles be damned, if there were a Mount Rushmore of porn - and I humbly submit, sir, there should be - these three rather haggard looking gentlemen should be on it.

Actually this does confirm the slump in porn sales.
Sad. What is the world coming to?

That Celebrity Net Worth website is notoriously inaccurate, but I believe Flynt is worth a lot - but not all from porn:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Larry_Flynt_Publications

He used to publish non-porn magazines, including music and video game titles. I think he sold his interest back in the 90s, when print magazine publishing was probably enjoying it's last big hurrah. No matter what you think of the guy personally, he's a magnet for money. Guccione tried to launch non-porn mags and failed miserably.

I don't even consider Hefner a pornographer, unless you consider Victoria's Secret catalogs porn. The Playboy brand is still worth a fortune, although I'm not sure how much of a stake he still owns. Back when XXX video really took off in the 80s and 90s, he wouldn't release hardcore titles with PB brand attached, opting for softcore instead. Flynt proceeded to eat everyone's lunch in tape and disc sales before the Internet crashed the party. Penthouse tried to go down the hardcore road in the late 90s and, again, failed miserably.

You can definitely go broke in the porn trade. The smaller companies and producers are being crushed right now, and the collapse of the industry is being exacerbated by the performers themselves - a lot of the younger performers are transitioning to being mostly full-time escorts and the other half, well, no one with half a brain wants to perform with full-time escorts without protection, it's too risky.

It's adorable how 72-year-old porn star Dave Cummings thinks the young whipper-snappers are pirating his movies:
