Head of Mormon church Thomas Monson summoned by British magistrates' court over Adam and Eve teaching:Thomas S Monson, president of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, ordered to appear before British magistrates' court amid claims that the organisation's teaching amounts to 'fraud'

===Begin Quote===
A formal summons signed by District Judge Elizabeth Roscoe warns Mr Monson,
who is recognised by Mormons as a God's prophet on Earth, that a warrant
for his arrest could be issued if he fails to make the journey from Salt
Lake City, Utah, for a hearing on March 14.

In one of the most unusual documents ever issued by a British court, it
lists seven teachings of the church, including that Native Americans are
descended from a family of ancient Israelites as possible evidence of fraud.
[...]

The Church dismissed the summons as containing "bizarre allegations" and
signalled that Mr Monson has no plans to attend.

It was issued in response to a private prosecution attempt by Tom Phillips,
a disaffected former Mormon who now runs MormonThink a website highly
critical of the church.

But contrary to the Telegraph report, the MormonThink website is not involved in the case.  It does report on the case, and shows two different summons on behalf of two people:

My only question would be; how do you define religious fraud? By what standard do you go by? Who's opinion? Any opinion on religion would just like your opinion, man.

And if the Mormons are a "fraud," wouldn't this ridiculous shit-for-brains con artist thief be a fraud...................

Absolutely, Paul and Jan Crouch are frauds.  Benny Hinn,  Steve Hill, and all the rest of those TBN Word-Faith preachers to too if you ask me.

Though, Paul Crouch is dead now.  And he was a homosexual, to boot (not that anything's wrong with that, except insofar as Paul Crouch was a hypocrite and a closeted coward).  Just Google the name "Enoch Lonnie Ford" for more info on Paul Crouch's antics.

These foolish TBN crooks do not represent me, as a Christian.  They embarrass me, these people, the lot of them.

You know what the difference between Joseph Smith and Warren Jeffs is?  About 170 years, that's what.  Mormonism is an even bigger scam than Word-Faith theology, in my book.

Maybe, but who has the right to "ordered to appear before British magistrates' court amid claims that the organisation's teaching amounts to 'fraud'"  ??

I do not understand your question.  Please rephrase?

DigitalBuddha

Who has the right to call any religious person, or what they believe or claim, to be a fraud? What is the standard we are to go by? Who determines who is a fraud and who is not?

Masked Dude

I'm not in the UK, but I'm not comfortable with a court deciding this. I wonder if they'd ever do this to the Church of England?

Everyone's religious and spiritual beliefs should be treated on the same level. Until some sort of supernatural being drops down to earth and establishes himself or herself as the Grand Boobah, with the miracles and water into wine and all that shit to back it up, then all religions are the same: Christianity, Islam, Scientology, Satanism, Flying Spaghetti Monsters, etc.

If you're going to prosecute someone for fraud, then prosecute them for fraud with solid evidence to back it up. Leave religion out of it. If I give you my life's savings because I believe you're the second coming of some demigod, that's on me.
