I just had some of a cherry tart/single crust pie my wife made.  My wife uses a mix of frozen or fresh fruit if we have it and reconstituted dried fruit (either from our garden or leftovers from the food bank).  These come out really nice, I could sit and eat the whole thing but then I wouldn't fit my pants.  :)

Oh, and we shared part of the head of a chocolate Santa tonight.  Not just any chocolate, this is from Bissingers ($$$).  Always dumpster dive at high class stores you could never afford to shop in.  :)

Anyway, had any good, wholesome munchie items lately?

Me, I really love banana-flavored Whoopie Pies.  I love Whopie Pies in general.  Also, my wife makes a hell of a delicious pound cake.

Man, this thread takes me back. I used to be big into my sweet treats... but turns out sugar makes me fat, unhealthy and hellishly slaved to the desire to stuff my face with cake, so I cut it out a year or so back as part of a general not-quite-effort to make my life a bit more dudely. My munchies these days are mainly meat-based!

BUT - I did find one little recipe which I treat myself to from time to time. Involves taking very dark chocolate, butter, heavy cream and shredded coconut, melting it all together, pouring into an ice-cube tray and letting it set in the freezer for half an hour. You end up with these gorgeous chocolate truffles, they taste divine but only have a fraction of the amount of sugar you'd normally expect.

On a side note - Rev Shagbeard, dude, I love your signature image... far out, man.

I've cut way back on sweets, I can now pass up bags of all sorts of things (brownies, cakes, pastries, etc.) during the food bank pickups.  They don't mind if we snack (fringe benefit) but the Santa is the only thing lately.

Oh, and I have a little dark chocolate every day (less than a serving).  We got a 15 pound box of dark chips a while back so I'm set for a while.  :)

Do you know what yerba mate tea is, man?

jdurand

No idea.  I'm normally a cheap tea guy except for the couple of pounds of the expensive stuff we got for free.

Been doing pretty good on the sweet stuff now that Mr. Kringle is back at the North Pole annoying his elves and the missus, but can't help but crave spicy/savory and I love a little bit of heat on a tortilla chip. (Mmmm, salsa!)

I am usually more of a salt guy myself a big fan of potato chips and of cheese. But the other night I had these chocolates leftover from Christmas. One type were Irish Whisky filled the other bailies kind of the same thing. I didn't really like them so I thought what would the dude do and it came to me. I tossed them in the blender with some vannila ice cream and kaluah best milkshake ever it was awesome.

Yesterday was my fortieth birthday.  So last night (by way of celebrating) I enjoyed some fine inhalable flora for the first time in about a month.  Then I wound up eating about a pound of macaroni salad, along with some biscuits that I drizzled with honey.  About an hour after that, I drank a couple of glasses of homemade watermelon wine and shortly thereafter went to bed.  L'Chaim!
