A dude like environment? A dude world scenario?

I'm wondering if any dude here could see this dude's vision of the future as a possible dude like society? Not necessarily the landscapes or advanced technology (which I have to say is very cool), but his overall vision of a "resource based economy" and what it could be like.

Take a look at................

Careful dude, you don't know how the VP peeps are.

But the concept, while not yet viable, is a potential inevitability, humanity is just not ready.

Been round for round with the Venus Project community and their detractors. Both miss the greater point, but the detractors have more logic on their side. It will be a long time until humans are willing to change their ideas about personal ownership, the VP relies on an enlightened society, we just do not have one yet.

The tech is actually closer to reality than the social structure, the robot revolution is on our door step, and the Japanese are rushing for the door quicker than us Americans can stash our shit. Fusion reactors are being built by ITER. Joule Unlimited is in construction of their first commercial production facility to produce diesel from sunlight and CO2. They engineered a micro organism that eats CO2 and light and shits straight diesel, skim it and put it in your tank ready, 50 times more efficiently than bio-fuels can do.

The key to any Utopian society is energy, it is the only thing that has any real value, with it you can make anything else you need.

First the world has to fully adopt the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, that will be a watershed moment for us. Also a good bridge to the VP possibility is using Schumakers "Buddhist Economics", crappy name good economic model. The nation of Bhutan is currently using Buddhist economics, or Gross National Happiness, instead of GDP they use GNH to judge how well their policies are working. They are one of the happiest nations on the planet according to some lists.

So er, that is just what my investigations into the Vp turned up, lotta strands out there.

I heard a statistic that 4% of the planet's population are on a path of enlightenment. The rest, well, they're stuck in their "story". They prefer to wallow, suffer, blame, and aren't afraid to pass on their pain.  That's a lot of negativity, a lot of bad inertia to try and move in the other direction.  Revgms is right - we're not ready as a planet.

But - us "abiders" don't have to change the world to make the world better.  As we each become more dude-like, we're influencing our immediate environment.  As we slowly evolve away from negativity, others will follow. You know, pay it forward, be kind, respect, etc.

Another "but": it's gonna be a long while before the majority of the world is dude-like. But I think it'll happen - I guess I'm an optimist.

I wholeheartedly agree.  It was part of the sentiment for an old article of mine that we need more Dudely types to filter out into the world.  We need Dudely accountants to spread chill and calm in offices and we need Dudely politicians to keep the corrupt a-holes at bay.

If we retreat into a commune, it's good for us, but then the rest of the world loses all the positives we have to give.  I'll take my chances in the valley of the undude, trying to stay calm and sane, and to gain wisdom from it.  Hey, it's a challenge, but it's a fun one! :D

You're not a lone, Hominid, man!  I'm right with you on this one.  Whilst I realise humanity's flaws I still feel the world is moving towards a better state of mind.  It may be a slow move, but, y'know, that's the way we like to do things anyway.  What's the rush? :)

Nihilists and real reactionaries will never allow free energy, they'll find an excuse and throw nuke bombs or biological weapons over your head. You can't take their money while they can and want yours.

Actually there is a law in Italy, and surely there are some even worse than it in other countries, that if you go to the patent office with an invention which could be important for military or similar purposes, and almost everything can be seen this way, your invention gets secreted and disappears and you could even not be payed for it. Plus you're also warned that if you ever talk about it with someone you could face a lot of shit, an enormous amount of shit. Every important invention goes this way. What arrives to the public is what they want to arrive.

Unless you throw it on the net and on YouTube. Hydrogen driven cars will appear when there will be no more oil and lobbies have find a way to copyright them. Nothing is free or un-taxed in the land of nihilism, where we live now.

Will the world change? Let me ask you another question: will human nature change? Has Tibet been left alone living its life as it wanted? And Shaolin monasteries?

Can Dudeism help change the world? Surely yes, and it changes lives for the better, but it will never appeal to fundamentalists and assholes. Those understand only bowling balls. That's human nature again.

Well, it all goes back to yin and yang concept, we are a counterweight to those reactionaries and the more we are the better the world will be. But for every dude born it appears a nihilist, it is an eternal struggle.

Imho obviously.  ;D
IMDO: Always In My Dudely Opinion, dude. And, dude, let's not forget that sometimes I'm a f***ing moron.

it is the ultimate dichotomy of humanity-
each and every individual is capable of achieving enlightenment, there is no barrier other than one's self preventing it... and yet, humanity seems to always choose suffering.

can we achieve global satori? yes
will we do it any time soon? probably not
but we must abide, and in many ways abiding inherently requires that we not abide by things that need to be changed.

the greatest challenge is not converting those who are un-Dudelike (that is a slippery slope on many levels), but rather attracting those who are already one thier Dude-path and rallying together and raising a new generation of little Dudes.

notice how adamant the GOP is about controlling sexuality, in such a way that seems to encourage people to breed excessively? they are breeding their next generation of sheeple.

as President what's her name says in the first season of Battlestar Galactica-
if WE want to the human race to survive, we need to start making babies!
May Peace, Love, and Grooviness be with you... Always!
