Masked Dude

Well said, forumdude. That's one of the reasons I read what you and DB post. I don't agree 100% with what either of you (or anyone here) says, but I'd rather find out than assume.

All this recent discourse has made me uncomfortable. Can't and won't speak for anyone. I know that my usual plan of stepping back and getting both sides isn't popular. I'd rather do that than just argue.

So do what you must regarding the forums, Mr forumdude.

Absolutely, DB. I dig your style and wish Abideist would learn from you.

To illustrate, I sometimes have some personal disagreements with DB's politics but that doesn't affect my opinion of him as a participant here because he post things in a humorous and Dudely way. He knows this isn't all about winning the argument, but putting shit out there and allowing open exchange of info and ideas. And he agrees to take a step back when confronted with conflicting evidence and communal sentiment, just as most people on this forum do. And as Caesar just did, commendably.

Abideist, on the other hand is aggressively pursuing some sort of idealistic notion of liberty to say whatever he wants in the guise of intellectual freedom, even when that intellectual freedom includes the mandate to pretend he didn't say things and to never take anything back or meet anyone half way. This whole thing got inflamed that previous post when he said

"Personally, and I may be shunned by my fellow dudes for saying this, but FUCK muslims."

Now he says that we should apologize for making "unjustified assumptions" about his attitude towards Muslims. That's ridiculous. And the dissenting opinions about Buddhism are somehow "vilifi[ing] your defense" of them? Who's the fucking Nihilist here?

This has nothing to do with "being offended" and everything to do with rules of polite discourse. This isn't Nam. There are rules. If you don't understand the difference between free discourse and total narcissistic anarchism, then you're not welcome here. There are many forums where people behave this way and you'll fit right in. It's clear that you don't understand what Dudeism is all about.

However, if you want to take a step back and look at what your'e doing and contribute meaningfully to this forum, you're more than welcome to stay. You're welcome to disagree, but not to piss on our rug and call it "sharing."

To build on what you said, Forumdude (which I appreciated, by the way); there is always the temptation to argue to win; winning an argument seems to be the goal in a lot of cases, perhaps it's our egos, or insecurities that are talking, when we "must win." More than often, its just plain pride, and in some nobler cases, it is a passionate belief in what you "know to be right" (such is my weakness). But, I'm wondering if a better way, and a better more productive path, to argue is to lay out your rap a to see if it's made of a good metal, put your opinions out on a level playing field and see how it fares. You test metal against metal...but the point is to test. Testing often reveals flaws, which is a good thing.

I have dabbled in arguing to win before (not here very much) and hell, yeah right; a lot of damn good it did me, and a lot of damn good it did anyone in the long run, for that matter. If you are good enough and don't mind typing a lot of shit, you can probably win just about any debate. Wha hoo, big deal! So maybe a more dudely enlightened way in a debate is to add your comments to the group mind as a way to see if you can enhance the body of knowledge of any subject. What you have to say may just be important for a wiser general consensus to come to the surface.

In other words; don't post to win the arguement, post to help everyone win. Sometimes you may post something that a person disagrees with, but to discover if you are right or not, they have to think, research and offer another opinion. By doing so, everyone benefits, everyone wins, and the body of knowledge expands. In short, a dozen heads united to discover deeper truths are more powerful than one dude with his or her argument a dude is determined to protect at all costs. A single stick can be easily broken, a dozen sticks, not so easy.

That's just like my opinion, man.

jesus fucking Christ man.

really?

It's like when I have to go to work with the fucking idiots that are above my pay grade and they have it all figured out before they've even done a fraction of the work required to know what the fuck is going on.

I don't have time to be pissed off, my life outside of what I would like to believe is the importance of dudeism is shitty enough as it is without reading posts about these fucking bullshit opinions.

AGAIN AND FOR THE 3RD TIME, you've managed to make false accusations against me.

It's you who are being undude at this point, despite my attitude, which I understand is not exactly zen but granted I didn't start this shit storm.

I'm not going to waste the time going over the past 100 posts and give you a English lesson. If you haven't realized shit, it's again, your own problem.

" FORUM DUDE - Now he says that we should apologize for making "unjustified assumptions" about his attitude towards Muslims ( READ WHAT I WROTE, DOES IT SAY ANYTHING ABOUT MUSLIMS? NO! SEVERAL MEMBERS MADE UNJUSTIFIED ASSUMPTIONS THAT I WAS A. A HATEFUL RACIST B. A HALF IN HALF OUT LIAR. C. SOMEONE AVOIDING THE CONVERSATION. ETC. )   . That's ridiculous. And the dissenting opinions about Buddhism are somehow "vilifi[ing] your defense" of them? Who's the fucking Nihilist here?   (WHAT THE FUCK ARE YOU FUCKING TALKING ABOUT! I REALLY HAVE NO CLUE WHAT THAT IS SUPPOSED TO MEAN? ALL I DID WAS POINT OUT THE FACT THAT THEY DIDN'T STAR THE FUCKING RIOTS, THE MUSLIMS DID, AND FUCK THE MUSLIMS THAT DID THAT SHIT AND ANY OTHER MUSLIMS THAT WANT TO KILL INNOCENT PEOPLE! )
?

( EXCUSE THE FUCK OUT OF ME FOR NOT BEING POLITE ABOUT MURDERING PSYCHOPATHS, BUT EVERY OTHER CONVO SINCE THEN HAS BEEN IN MY DEFENSE OF YOUR, AND OTHERS RECKLESS RESPONSES FOR LIGHTLY BROWSING THE CONVO AND NOT ACTUALLY READING EVERY FUCKING WORD)
However, if you want to take a step back and look at what your'e doing and contribute meaningfully to this forum, you're more than welcome to stay. You're welcome to disagree, but not to piss on our rug and call it "sharing."

(I have been extremely dude, and civil about every thing up till I read this little message of yours. FORUM DUDE, You're the one who is undude. And I doubt you will see it either.   And obviously since you can't understand why an American wouldn't apologize for saying he's proud of being American, me and you will never agree on anything right? Your distaste for Americans is unfortunate but I can't hate you for that, I know lots of UK friends who hated it here in the states, but they never wanted to shun me for respecting civil liberty and freedom of religion. That's part of dudeism itself!

I honestly feel like it's you who has over blown this whole thing by simply not reading what is actually being said, and simply skimming over these forum discussions.

Whatever dude. And another thing, I've never once said anything about winning an argument, I'm not even arguing, Im simply defending myself.  Although it does remind me of the Islamic militant comments I've seen on many web stories and news sites.  There's always someone talking about victory and winning, and I keep rolling my eyes, because life isn't a game and people who are in an argument to win it are fucking out of it man. I don't give a shit if you agree with me, I don't give a shit if you think you're right and I'm wrong. I don't care about anything other than making it perfectly clear that you have greatly misunderstood, well, pretty much every fucking thing from stroke one, and just because I can't get on this site every day and point shit out right away, it gives people the opportunity to make up a whole bunch of shit in my absence and it's taken the wrong way.

Other than that, Im find with looking the other way and saying, whatever dude, fuck it, lets go bowling.  But my whole life this is the type of shit I've had to deal with. People not having the correct information, miscommunication. all of that shit.

I don't need your forum to be a dude, I don't need your opinions and your nonsense attack against me to make me less of the dude I'll always be.

I don't think I will be coming back here, and since I don't have a the resources to make my own dudeist website, I doubt I will ever have another way to get in contact with other dudes, but if you're reading this and your living in the USA (or anywhere really but if state side be warned patriotism is frowned upon I guess?), and you're really about just taking it easy and letting shit be, until someone threatens your freedom or tries to make you a patsy for some bullshit, than you and I are on the same page friend, and don't let anyone, be they claiming dudeist or nay, ever make you think you have to find a new place or you can't speak your mind, or anything! I'm with you dude, and you don't need anything but a cool beverage and an open lane.

talking to me about rules...Like i'm posting fucking Nazi propaganda, or plans for space stations, or some shit.

hypocrites.
You're damned if you dude, you're damned if you don't.

I wonder that at times, too. I even had a long conversation with another dude here. I almost had my account deleted because of some recent posts.

The "zen" of dudeism (hence its essence)  seems to be a lost concept on some. I think a lot of people have been avoiding the forum because of the dominating bullshit strident rants. I'm disappointed in the tone of the forum of late.

I'm hoping my sig picture would lighten things up!

I'm going to lock this topic before it becomes any more toxic. It appears that communication has broken down entirely and attempts to rectify it would just result in more bad vibes. Let's wipe this slate clean and try to start over.
I'll tell you what I'm blathering about...
