Masked Dude

Is there a way to delete your own thread?

I know we can delete/edit individual posts, but I wonder about threads. On one forum I frequented long ago had that capability, but I think it's rare.

Just some old threads I started that didn't really add anything. :) Just wanted to clean them up.

That can be a problem, and we have discussed it before. Forumdude (the Dudely Lama) doesn't really like to because by doing so, you also delete comments made by other dudes in that thread. We have deleted a few threads started by trolls and spammers, and in those threads there were comments from legit members that got deleted, but they were only comments like "get the fuck outta here, dipshit!, so it wasn't really a problem deleting them. As for other comments, we try to preserve all posts of dudes, because, and this one reason I would do so; all posts are part of the history of the beginning of Dudeism and should be preserved for the value they are.

Gotcha! Thanks so much for the info. I figured that post count was a problem if it did allow it.

Thats an interesting way of thinking about it; being totally linked through the internet n' all. That means that as long as the internet is around, every Dudeist event will be preserved.

Kinda makes me imagine; A time where Dudeism reigns supreme, and in school everyone is studying the forum

Awesome

One technical problem in there, only as long as a server has it saved, if we all cleared our histories and the server goes dead, it's all gone. Old comments from old defunct forums are gone, seen it happen. I had an epic 400+ post thread on the Colbert Nation, the famous "Yes We Can(nabis)" thread, the most hat tipped thread that wasn't named "hat tip this thread", Skeedoop!!!!(in the fashion of Kirk calling out Kahn)

Blessed are the paranoid, for they have made backups8)

A few feet to my left is my network backup server, where my smarter clients pay me to keep their off-site backups. If the data center (or office) burns down it takes out the cheap hardware but not the expensive data. My own most important data is on a RAID1 array in my workstation, another RAID array in my network backup server, on an external hard disk, synced to my netbook, and on two different (fully encrypted) remote cloud storage servers -- one on this continent, one on the other side of the world. The moral being that data only goes away if you let it.

The question isn't whether you're paranoid, but whether you're paranoid enough.  ;D
I'm just gone, man, totally fucking gone.

Did I mention I used to be in e-scrap recycling, you would drool if saw what passed through my warehouse, hundreds of E=MC2 servers, I have detroyed billions of gigs of data, mwahahaha.

Future archaeology may involve the excavating of old hard drives and servers for information!

Poor bastards having to trawl through millions of instagram pics.

They will discover that we were a world obsessed with Porn and food! :)
