Hello Dudes

Apparently the Hacktivist group Anonymous has called for websites around the country participate in an internet blackout tomorrow to protest the passing of CISPA, a law which allows to government to extract private info from from the internet without a warrant.

I figured it would be a Dudely cause to blackout tomorrow (Monday Apr. 22).

The law would only legitimize what they're doing already, and will continue doing regardless of any action or inaction by Congress or any court. I dig the idea of calling attention to it and all, but there are more effective ways to piss the man off. Use SSL (HTTPS) everywhere possible, and encrypt all of the email that you possibly can no matter how mundane the content. If you use IM applications, choose those that support encryption and use encryption whenever possible. They're going to get all of your data anyway, but make 'em fucking work for it.
I'm just gone, man, totally fucking gone.

My reps voted right on this, love Maine. The pres promised to veto, so we shall see.

Me I talk directly at the snoops, hi guys, privacy is dead anyways, what remains is to make law in step with human progress and not oppression.

Oops, I posted on this in another thread but I'll re-type it here. One of the little "glitches" that was written into CISPA is a provision for employers (or prospective employers at interview time) to demand employees' passwords for social network sites, apparently refusal to comply can be punished by termination. Some congressman tried to float an amendment to stop employers from jackbooting but the amendment was voted down rather soundly. If it passes the senate then a veto is the only obstacle (yeah, right!) left in its path.
I saw a Mark Dice vid on You Tube about this but it has apparently been pulled. Try googling something like "does CISPA require employees to disclose passwords" and you'll get a bunch of hits.
More than a little creepy.
