Is Dudeism a recognized religion in Alabama?

I being a very dudely dude, have not myself done the necessary legwork to find out if Dudeism is a recognized religion in Alabama. I was recently ordained and was hoping that someone else has already gone through the trouble to find out if where I live I can actually marry dudes and whatnot... I have looked up the state law that basically says anyone ordained by a "recognized" religion can officiate over ceremonies but have not actually contacted my local authorities. I live in the city of Mobile, Al which is of course, in Mobile county, Al. So does anyone know??

Any licensed minister of the gospel in regular communion with the Christian church or society of which he is a member may perform marriages. Also, marriages may be performed by the pastor of any religious society according to the rules of the religious society. --- Ministers must provide a certificate of the marriage to the judge of probate within one month after the marriage. --- For questions see the clerk for the judge of probate.

Your problem there Landshark is the phrase "in regular communion with the Christian church or society" seeing as most of us aren't christians. We're back to that horrible problem with most law systems derived from the latin (ie English, Scottish, US, and a number of others), it's particularity and specifically by the letter, if it doesn't say it, it isn't included.

A good point. Here I would have to defer to local legal authorities, as always check with your county clerk/registrar, but that line may be a good argument should they be reticent.

The hang-up there might be the "according to the rules of the religious society" part.  Do we have clearly-stated rules regarding the performance of a marriage ceremony?

As regards performance there is an article written by the ArchDudeship detailing the ceremony on the Dudespaper. As regards rules about marriage in general probably the right one is: "Well Dude, it's your life and it's your roll. Do what you wish." Or something like that.

I'm wanting to know the same thing. any word on this? I just remembered I became ordained in Nov 2009, and after a few minutes of research, I found out I can minister to weddings and funerals and such...I completely want to do this! anyone found any progress on what we can do in the state of Alabama?
