I find myself reacting to a lot of stuff on the forum.

When people post against: religion, gun control, gurus, organic food, arabs, spirituality and what have you, I get real uptight.

Sometimes I attack: science, atheism, automatic weapons, factory farming and Israeli foreign policy.

What the fuck is goin on?! I mean I own a gun, I'm not religious and I studied science at university.

It would be nice to have a more integrative, less polemic vibe. For my part - I'm gonna try.

Myself, I'm not real big on division but I have no problem with blowing off those who are too uncool for words. Blowing off is entirely different from railing against, which is an uptight thing to do. Our world is full of all kinds of people with very strong opinions and bleefs, most of them uninformed or ill-informed, and they cling to them for the very same reasons I cling to my own, which I naturally believe are well informed and rational regardless of any facts to the contrary. No one wants his worldview challenged unbidden -- our survival advantages are opposable thumbs, omnivorism, and intelligence, with the biggie by far being intelligence. Tell someone who's not ready to hear it that the stuff he does with his head is wrong and you're threatening him at a very deep, primal level.

What the fuck is going on? I dunno, man, but in my world it's just humans being the way humans are and normal happens to be a much broader range than most of us are comfortable with. Within that range lie all kinds of people who believe that what I do with my head is wrong, and among them are those who have no trouble telling me so. Unless/until it becomes a credible physical threat, it's just people doing what people do and nothing to fret over.

A Noble goal Boston! The issues you mentioned are all symptoms of the root problem which is society not just taking it easy. I am inspired to take a solemn pledge to say "fuck it" more and focus on being kind. This forum is the place to make it happen.
