Not likely that we'd do a print version (too much outlay) so InDesign wouldn't be the tool of choice (I have a copy - used to be a print graphic designer - but thanks for the suggestion), probably just do an online version. Interesting idea though. Would be a good way to get the Dudocracy involved - I've been loath to put ads on any Dudeism sites, but a Dudeist general interest magazine could have them, and then people who submit content could earn Google adwords revenue from pages they write that are clicked on.
I'll tell you what I'm blathering about...

Gotcha. I was thinking more of PDFs than print. Had that in my head. :)

What an absolutely righteous idea dudes. It'd be a lot of work, but once launched, it's just a matter of filling it with content once a month. (Or 2 - whatever...)  I like that tagline already mentioned, and having it as a general interest magazine with a few ads would feed the monkey. Should I mention the unmentionable and suggest it be a men's magazine? For me, some comedy and parody would be kinda fun; if you remember "The Man Show" with Jimmy Kimmel and Adam Carrola... not quite as overt, like girls on trampolines, but fun nonetheless.  Perhaps have a page 3 girl.  ;)

Just a thought. But moving away from Lebowski and making it a general interest e-rag would certainly fly.

Some suggested departments:
-"We got Yer Beeper" - Review of low and medium tech toys that still make do. Palm pilots, Beta, 8-Tracks, brick phones, View Masters
-"The In and Out's Closed" - Quick recipes for those midnight munchies
-"Toes By Three" - Medical Breakthroughs for Boomers
-"I Hate the F*cking Eagles" - Music, movie, and book reviews

There's lots of potential here.

What would be cool would be a Dudeist Magazine App like the CNN, BBC, or NPR App.....

The app idea is good, too. I can write Android apps but not iPhone ones. It's possible but I don't have an iPhone to test them on.

And I like the idea of the Page 3 Girl, but what would the female Dudes think? Chime in!

May I also suggest adding to the tech idea? We can review software/apps that make life easier or funner.

Here are some other ideas to add to the app idea. These are mainly to increase exposure.

Google has its Google Currents, and the corresponding Producer, so you can publish digital magazines available to Android and iPad/iPhone users.

Amazon can offer magazines through the Kindle Publishing program.

I've been playing with both, and there are pros and cons for each. I think for ease of use, Amazon's would be better. You just make a HTML/XML/epub file, use KindleGen to create a Kindle book. You can make HTML with a text editor or various free editors. XML is easy if you know it. Epubs are simple through something like Sigil (which I use and love).

If not, feel free to ignore this message. :)

I've got an article about how to remove grout stains using spirit vinegar that I'd be happy to contribute. I originally wrote it for the Catholic Herald but they rejected it (probably because of all the spelling mistakes) so you could have it for free.

To be honest I was thinking that maybe the Dudespaper should evolve into a more general interest sort of magazine. Move away from the Lebowski stuff and truly be a "Lifestyle Magazine for the Deeply Casual." So there's be columns on how to relax, simplify your life, easy ways to help feed the monkey, practical consumerism, ideas for activities that are unique and not the same old same old. Basically epicureanism but the original uncompromised first draft.

The website could use a total redesign and we could relegate the current lebowski centric stuff to a section all it's own.

Or do you guys think it would be better to start with something totally fresh?
A million times this! The Big Lebowski is and always will be sacred fun to us, but it is somewhat minor to the bigger message of dudeism. Dudeism is about a lot more than just fanboyism to many of us and I know many others can be turned off by the fanaticism of the TBL before they can open up to dudeism message. If this pool is stagnating, then it's time to open the dam and go with the flow. Let's not be afraid of the unknown. Keep'er Easy Dudes.

Ah, I think maybe a page three dude, or a dude of the week or what have you, might appeal to broader audience. Page three girl kinda sounds like Easy Rider or something. Just, ya know, my opinion and such.

Wow, that's way cool!

...but "Zeen," is that some kind of Eastern thing? ;D

To get off the ground, the magazine needs an editor. I'd love to see this thing happen. If FD, DB or any of the other big boys ain't got time, I'd be happy to volunteer.
100% delighted to stand aside if anyone else wants it but it would be a real pity if somebody didn't pick up the bag of undies and run with it.

super! the forum has some of the smartest fellers in dudeism. it would be great to start here. everybody think about ideas for the new magazine. Columns, features, the name of the mag, etc. Maybe we can even do google adwords and people can share in the ad revenue. I've been averse to putting ads in Dudeist stuff but this would be more general interest so it might be ok.

I'd be glad to help out in any way I can. Editor, contributor, monkey, whatever. :)

I'm a big fan of calling it "Abide" or "Abide Magazine." Basically a name to suggest it's for easier and productive living.

It could have sections for

  • Music - and if people let us link to YouTube, web, or mp3, all the better
  • Books
  • How-to - make shelves, fix that bad CD burn, make Roman curtains from old fabric
  • Movies - cinema, DVD, Blu-ray
  • Abiding Places -  photos of places, like your favorite beach scene, hidden forest pocket, or something worthy of being printed out and hung near your desk
  • Apps - apps that may make your life a bit easier, or at least more fun
  • Lifestyle - recipes, drinks, restaurants, funny stories about such things
  • 13 Questions - find someone famous or noteworthy; why 13 questions? Playboy and others have 20, why not 13? Could use 21 for blackjack. Or 42 for the meaning of life. So on.

It could have main sections, like Entertainment (music, books), Lifestyle (food, drink, clothes), Tech, Travel & Places, and so on.

Just a few ideas I typed out really fast. Didn't think them through and been having a rough time, so don't expect quality work right now. :)
