Dan Dando

Hey, everyone. Just registered and thought I'd say.. hello  :) I hope everyone is well.

My name's Dan and I'm from a little country called Wales in the UK. I'm a big fan of the Lebowski film (who isn't though, right?) and.. I won't lie... when I stumbled upon the website and then this forum.. I giggled a little at the concept, the whole Dudeism thing. But then I decided to check out a few topics and I found myself really impressed by this tight-knit community that you guys and girls have going on here, and I actually found some topics where I feel like I was helped a little by advice that was given to... someone else. Dudeism deserves more respect than the amount I gave it on first impression, that's for sure. I thought I'd sign up and see if I can sink my teeth into the whole thing a little more.

I hope you don't mind if I ramble on about myself for just a teensy bit longer?! Umm, I'm 24 years old and I've been feeling a little rudderless for the past couple of years (but then I guess a lot of people feel that way at this age.. and any age really) - Last year I left my job in retail as... things were getting to me a little. Anxiety seemed to sneak up on me and I'm ashamed to say that it's been kicking my derriere for a while now. I'm still unemployed at the moment... but I feel like I'll be able to fend off my anxiety if a new job comes calling. That being said, I've been feeling like I'm missing the bigger picture in some way. I'm not sure. I'm just about to start doing Yoga and I'm also thinking of trying out Mindfulness Meditation, but Dudeism seems like it could be a pretty big and nifty piece to squeeze into the puzzle.

The idea is this: Life is short and complicated and nobody knows what to do about it. So don?t do anything about it. Just take it easy, man. Stop worrying so much whether you?ll make it into the finals. Kick back with some friends and some oat soda and whether you roll strikes or gutters, do your best to be true to yourself and others ? that is to say, abide.

I read that on the website and it really jumped out at me. For the past couple of years I've been bemoaning my lack of... a passion or goal in life. Like, I have a friend who is a lawyer and I have a friend who is a film-maker and I've just been waiting for that moment of inspiration where I realise.. "I want to be a cowboy." (or something like that, haha) - But I feel like Dudeism might help me come to terms with the possibility that inspiration might not come but I can live a good life without that... dream profession, and all that jazz (I suppose I have plenty of life left to worry about all that later, maybe) I really am spending too much time looking back and looking too far forward.

Right, that's it for rambling. Forgive me. I was wondering though - is the Abide Guide a must-read? If so, I'll have to pop down to Waterstones tomorrow and see if I can purchase it  :)
