Hi all dudes! this is my first time i write on this forum (i usually write on dudeismo.org), i am an italian dude coming from Rome, i am 18.
I read some book about dudeism, i think i'm informed enough about this life style andi think to be a dude.  ;D
I agree with every things of dudeism, i think to live as a dude also before i knew dudeism (about 1 year ago), my opinion is that living as a dude could make a better world, my dream is a dude world.
However i still have a doubt..  ::)
I do not live exactly as a Dude becouse there are some things that i do not practice and maybe a real dude would make them.
-i do not smoke anything, not becouse i think is a bad thing or people mustn't do it, i think we are all free to do that we want if we don't hurt nobody.
-i am not so lazy, i always take it easy, but as Dude like bowling and he engages in it..I like to do a lot of sport and i practice it every day. For this reason i don't smoke and i try to don't eat trash; however when i am with friends i drink white russian and i don't give a fuck about all the sport i would make the next day. For all other things i don't like i am the laziest man in the world  :D
Now think that i live as a dude but put in this way of life more activity in what i like to do, put the fact that i don't smoke cannabis (i abide and take easy just with the music and with the sport also that with my mind), now my answer is..AM I STILL A DUDE?
i think that these things are not so important to be a dude, i think there are some dude that never seen the film or never listen nothing about dudeism; but this is jusy my opinion and i would like to listen yours  ;)

I hope this has not bored you too much and sorry for my english!

Welcome dude and no worry on the grammar its all good. In this dudes frame of reference being a Dudeist is not necessary being lazy all the time. Its more about not being so up tight at times you have to be bizy but just so long as you remember to slow down every now and then and really enjoy life you know take it easy its all good. As for the dude bowling and you playing sports its all a vise something the per song doing said activity enjoys doing for me I act on stage or other forms of public speaking. On not smoking weed who cares A LOT of dudes don't smoke Mary Jane so its just a extension of taking it easy really. In the end Dudeism is about being open to all points of view.

In my opinion, the cannabis is not the issue here. No Dudeist has to be exactly like the Dude, because the truth is, none of us are the Dude. The point is that the Dude just takes it easy and remains true to himself, without feeling pressured by society to be uptight and shit. So geb_dude, just be yourself, take it easy, and say fuck it to anyone who doesn't agree with your lifestyle. It's just like their opinions man.

Yeah Oliver Benjamin the dudely lama had been quoted as in not partaking in the activity of smoking weed

Thaaats right, Dude. I can't - it makes me paranoid and overthink everything. I'm also a shitty bowler. But Dudeism is not about doing what the Dude does, it's about doing things in the way that he does them, or with the attitude that he employs while doing things. That is, in the Taoist manner of wu wei - doing without striving. Ironically, that "Just Do It" ad for Nike is actually pretty Dudeist, even if it seems like an Achiever sort of thing. The point is do things that work for you and don't hurt anyone else, and don't worry what other people expect you to do. It would be very undude of me to smoke weed only because the Dude does it even though I've tried so many times and it didn't work for me. That would be the height of undudeness - being a poser who wants to fit into a certain category. Likewise, you don't have to be lazy. There are a lot of hard working, even workaholic Dudes out there. But they work because they love it and not because they need to prove anything to anyone. The only reason there is an emphasis on takin er easy and being lazy and casual in Dudeism is because the majority of our society tells us that these are bad things and so we're balancing the scale. You know what I'm trying to say here man. I'm talking about unchecked reflection. Drawing a life in the sand. Across this life you do not.
I'll tell you what I'm blathering about...

Thanks to everyone for the responses! ;)

My next step is to get the ordination the 21 of august (when i m 18een), then to find a work to help people and let me earn the right.

I smoke pot but I never touch alchohol. So I'm not drinking the oat sodas or the caucasians.

Remember the dude was a joint author of the original uncompromised version of the Port Huron statement. Part of that statement said that it's not about having things your own way, but about finding a way that is your own. This is very dudeist to me.

The fact the dude drinks and I don't reminds me that it's not about copying someone else, it 's about going with the flow, carving out my niche and enjoying it, regardless of what others think.

Having said that, I love wearing my pendleton indian sweater.

AspiringDude

Can only agree with my compeers here. I never touched drugs besides alcohol - though I plan to try something out once I find a safe way to do so - and I still consider myself a Dudeist. What many of those "it's just a movie so this 'religion' is bogus" folks don't get is that it's just a parable, much like the Bible. The Dude can show us not how to live life - imitating him completely would be very uptight - but how to abide where and who/what we are.
Taking it easy, not being a jerk and abiding - that's what Dudeism is about (and its predecessors) not adhering to a specific lifestyle (though many people eventually become more laid back and lazy, which is in my opinion a damn good thing) or continuously quoting a movie (or a book, in regards to the Bible).

I don't drink or smoke pot either, but I'm thinking of trying a white russian. I love the fact I don't have to being a Dudeist. I'm still living the same life I normally do, just more laid back and happier. :)
