a few years ago i was in north hollywood, or somwhere like that, maybe it was topanga, i never know exactly WHERE i am in california unless im home, ( or constantly and annoying asking my companions, 'where are we again?')
anyway, i saw jeff bridges and we had this moment of which im sure he has a lot but which i have never had aside from twice with tom waits over a 30 year period.
ANY, i digress as usual.
so after this moment of quiet pure happiness for me, i blathered really poorly like ' holy shit, aren't you......???" ( or something equally NON-quotable and
HE said really gently, 'hey man, ( i might be not directly quoting the 'hey man' part) Do not betray the moment for an abstraction of the mind, man."

i write that line down everywhere i go, not including bathroom walls as i dont carry sharpies anymore for fear of temptation and also because i so rarely leave the house.
too bad though, for on another subject, a tangent if you will allow me, i remember the 80's as a time with some seriously great public bathroom scribblings.
i used to think it was HILARIOUS to take a handful of toothpicks, sprinkly then around the toilet stall floor and write at eyes level on the door, 'Beware! The crabs polevault on toothpicks'.
was that un-dude? i dunno, but for my poor person it qualified as hilarious and on the verge of art. sorry for the pontification, its that point in between x-mas and ny's where i am VERY VERY bored.

Since I quit smoking and switched to decaf...I'm bored all the time!
Some of my meds do help a little...sure wish I could score some good weed though! ;D

Is he really?, I never new that man!, I read up on Thai Buddhism myself, read up on Ajahn Chah (Thai Monk now passed to the other side) and Ajahn Brahm English monk that has a monastery in Australia, would love to meet JB have a cocktail and chat about such things, I reckon he's as cool in real life as TBL movie, :)
Take it easy..., man ;)

I think this sounds like Terence McKenna.

QuoteFocus attention in the moment. Do not betray attention into expectation borne of abstraction, or regret borne of misplaced assumption, or remembrance borne of boredom and alienation in the moment. Attend the minute particulars as a kind of practice.
From what is Dudeism trying to liberate us?Thinking that's too uptight.

To what state of being is Dudeism trying to bring us? Just taking it easy, man.

By what means does Dudeism attempt do this? Abiding.
