I especially like the fact that he uses the phrase "be thankful" but gives it no religious connotation.

Wow I'd not read that, of course they would jump on the band wagon. As I said above I believe he is very carefully not mentioning "god" so they just have to try and bend it back to chrisitianity (fascists).
