So I've always had a rather lazy interest in the Tarot, seemed like a good way to pass the time while in the bath with a few yards of Happy Baccy at my disposal.
Has any of my fellow dudes come across dude related tarot or is it something I could, like, do maybe.....?...sounds exhausting though..
Interested to hear any cool blatherings on the subject

I've not used tarot, but use the I Ching every so often.

I've been interested in trying the I Ching, but I haven't quite got the hang of understanding each of the different hexagrams. How do you use it?

Brother D

The version I have, is the Richard Wilhelm edition, with a forward by Carl Jung. I use the 3 coin method and read the corresponding hexogram text and commentary and like most horoscopes, fit it to my current life situation. There's an edition by Carol k Anthony (more a guide, really), that is more in the parlance of our time.

Every now and then I feel a bit stuck on my path and use it as like a compass. I've not done readings for anyone else,(they've never asked, my wife is much the nonbeliever!).

Would that be the translation you'd recommend? How often do you use it, do you find the I Ching to be fairly accurate "course corrector"?

Brother D

I want to get the Carol K Anthony copy, as I reckon it'll be easier to understand. I use it when I get a bit stuck and need a bit of direction, though some rely on it as an oracle and live their lives by it.

It has helped in the past and I'll probably use it again (when I can find my coins), but like any horoscope, you take from it what you want. I still don't fully understand how to use it properly, which is why I want an easier version, (that and the internet can only help so much and it's a core Taoist text). I actually use my magic 8 ball more!

You are supposed to have a question in mind, cast your coins/yarrow stalks to build a hexagram, find the corresponding text, then read the commentary I believe.

What other Taoist texts do you consult? I have a copy of the Stephen Mitchell translation of the Tao Te Ching, and I recently purchased of copy of Seen and Unseen, which is a translation of The Yellow Emperor?s Yin Convergence Scripture, which discusses Taoist forms of meditation and contemplation.

I'm considering picking up a copy of the I Ching, but I'm going to use a copy from the library for while before I do, so that I can get the hang of using it.

I have the Tao and dude de Ching, I Ching, Doctrine of the mean, the Tao of Pooh, tai chi classics and the analects of Confucius.

Other books include the Bhagavad-Gita, the 3 fold lotus sutra, 2 by Pema chodron, 3 by the dalai lama, Zen and the art of motorcycle maintenance, the power of now by Eckhart Tolle, the Jedi path, the abide guide, the god delusion etc.

The one that has opened my eyes the most, is A short history of nearly everything by Bill Bryson.

Some of my books include the Upanishads, The Bhagavad Gita, Ta'i Chi by Wong Kiew Kit, all the Dudeist books. The Way of Zen, The Book, The Wisdom of Insecurity, Become What You Are, and Tao: The Watercourse Way all by Alan Watts. Religion Within the Limits of Reason by Kant, Cosmos by Carl Sagan, and so on.

There are all sorts of cards, but you could also create your own. In general you just need to know how to combine the cards to form the calculations you'll need to read. The cards don't really matter, just the formation. I had a friend who created a tarot deck using Pokemon cards and it worked just as well as any deck you could by at the occult shop or whatever.

--  Sorry to "zombie" an old thread, But didn't want to post a whole new thread since this here one already exists about this topic. So, here goes: I am interested in a "Dudeism Tarot" or "Dude Tarot" as well.

I saw awhile back a topic about a Lebowski playing card deck (which I still think would be cool) and its been in the back of my mind for awhile now. I am really getting interested in Tarot decks from an art and symbolism standpoint. I really find them interesting.  What I am wondering is could one ever make a Lebowski, Dude, or Dudeism themed Tarot deck given that the symbols involved would obviously be heavily drawn from the movie? Could the deck be made generic enough to not infringe, whilst still being uniquely recognizable as Dudeist and/or Lebowski?
