Dudes,
Do you think there's a meaning or metaphor relating to The Dude's car? In our brief introduction to Dude's life it undergoes:

shot by an uzi
low speed crashed multiple times
stolen
shit in
crowbared
burned to the ground

That's gotta mean something, doesn't it? Maybe it's some kind of Eastern thing.

Mark it eight, Dude

Always took it as a symbol of how, while the Dude likes his few possessions, and doesn't like bad things happening to them, he doesn't get stressed or angry when they get burned to fuck.

All he says, with a mild resigned annoyance, "Well... They finally killed my fuckin' car."

Leopoldrose

I think that it is a symbol of his attachment and how even a small bit of materialism leaves a dude open to heart ache. You know who is really dude? The vagrant. He literally shits on the symbol of the dudes attachment and moved on.

Well if you pay attention, whenever any refers to his CCR tapes, they only say "Credence."
These tapes are always kept in the car.
If you look up the definition for Credence, it means acceptance of something as true.
Realize that when anything negative happens to his car, either the dude or (most likely) Walter had just broken a "rule."
For instance, when the Dude's car is stolen, he had just previously parked in a handicapped zone.
When his car has its windows crowbared Walter had just assumed that Larry had just bought a shiny new car, and broke ITS windows.
So it seems that whenever you break "rules," you damage your own Credence.
It seems fitting also that the Nihilists burn the Dude's car seeing as they have no concept or respect for Credence whatsoever.
Hope this didn't confuse the hell out of anyone, it made sense in my head when I thought it  ;D

Hidden meaning? Separate incidences? Fuckin' eh, man, you might on to something here.

But, I ask; how about the dude's pad? Equally metaphoric for the dude's life? ...Broken into, peed on, accosted by thugs in, little Lebowski conceived in, door nailed shut (howbeit backwards), cops visit and advise the dude of the little chance of finding his beloved Credence tapes, and his place to practice his Tai Chi, and a peaceful place to soak in the tub until the thugs return, etc.
