Wish I could be a part of this.

I'm probably too young to be considered a real dudeist though, or at least that's the vibe I get.
You're damned if you dude, you're damned if you don't.

You're getting a vibe are you? Where you getting the vibe from? Where's my freakin' vibe? How come I wasn't told about free vibes? Is it just the nubile/ young buck Dudes or are we old creakers allowed vibes, too?

I don't know who decides that one Dude is a real Dudiest while another ain't but whoever the decider is then s/he sure ain't a Dudeist. Of course, no such Dude exists - but if such a one sprang into being then it would be time to demand a 'un-ordain' button (I think there should be one anyway). As for me, well, it's more of a hobby but even so, I don't think I would want to abide a check-list of Dudeist traits. If you've pressed the ordain button then you are a Dudeist - if you haven't but you contribute or are sympathetic then (IMO) you are a 'lay-Dude'. Don't need any more categories than that, do we?

As to contributing to the Dudementary: have you offered help or ideas via the links in the Dudespaper article? Perhaps you can meet them half-way between venues or act as a host for a gathering and invite the filmy Dudes. Maybe you could write a piece that could somehow be incorporated into the film.

I don't think it's an age thing. If I had found this site when I was a teenager I think I would have been drawn to Dudeism the same way I was drawn to Taoism.

Just because there are a lot of individuals here that have spent a lot of time thinking and reading up on the spiritual ideas of many cultures (much like I have), does not stop the point of view of a younger person being just as relevant.

Also there is the beautiful idea from Buddhism, from Gautama Siddhattha Buddha himself, I cant remember the quote but it goes something like;

"just because this enlightenment is the right way for me, it may not be the right way for you, don't copy what I have done."

or the Zen koan accredited to Zen Master Linji, (the founder of the Rinzai sect):

"If You Meet The Buddha On The Road, Kill Him"

Just because we have ideas that Dudeism is this or that, it doesn't mean it's right and it doesn't mean that your idea of Dudeism is any more or less right than yours.

I know I get into arguments with people on a regular basis, but arguments are a good thing. Don't see an argument as a competition where one person has to win all the time.

An argument is a vehicle by which you (I) test the depth and surety of my understanding of my own point of view by trying to justify that point of view against someone else's point of view.

I am always willing to admit I am wrong (when I am wrong). I am always willing to listen to another point of view and consider adjusting my own point of view on reflection.

I know my point of view now compared to when I was younger is different, but it is a development and an ever evolving philosophy.

I have learnt not to present everything as though I am right, just because something is my opinion does not make it fact.

It is good to have youth on your side, and we (Dudeism) need younger members if we are going to remain a viable community and survive longer than our constituent parts.

Much like the sexism thing, I don't see any need for ageism either.

This is my point of view, you are of course entitled to your own point of view, even if it is wrong every now and then.

thanks for the supporting words cake dude, and meekon dude.

well, I was just thinking about the older dudes i see and hang around at the bowling alley or when i'm at the bar.  When you rub elbows and start talking about how to take it easy and what dudeism is about, i usually get the feeling i'm way out of my league, or get the "you don't have a clue yet junior" story.

I personally feel like, what's the big deal or difference? after all most dudes didn't live past 25  about 500 years ago., and how much can we really learn into life?

You're damned if you dude, you're damned if you don't.

Ok, I wrote you several really long replies here, but decided not to post any of them. They all just seemed silly really. You know if you're a dude or not no matter what anyone else says about it.
We do not need anyone else's approval or acceptance to be ourselves dude.
"If you will it, it is no dream."

But then I am a bit slow. Took me 60 years to finally find my inner dudeness. You have already found it...just imagine how dude you will be when you're my frickin' age! 8)

There are no frickin' answers dudes, just choices.

Meekon,

I was supposed to be taking part in this, but after the change of Dudestock date it all got a little hazy.  Was going to meet up in York and possibly trail along and help, but there's a big schedule conflict now.  I'm still hoping to pop up to London myself for a bit of light involvement, although I need to pin down the dates a bit.

I'll mention to our Big Kahuna that you're interested, when I broach the subject with him and see if I can get him to provide us with some dates for the london leg.  Hopefully it'll be a period when you and Klaus and I might be free.

Ed considering I work up in London I can make most dates (can even take time off work if needs be).

As for Klaus I'll ask this weekend.

Sorry for not getting back to you, but I've been waiting patiently for a reply from Olly, who has apparently been up to his ears in Lebowskifesting.

Just had an email out of the blue from Thomas, the director, asking me about my possible involvement again, and asked if he has a schedule of dates for the UK leg he can let me have.  Once he replies I'll furnish you with some answers about what's going on in London.

Klaus can't make it as he's on holiday (the cheek of some people), but seeing as i sit in the middle of our great capital city every week day at work seems rude not to have a little meet up.

Dates in august are as follows:

5-6 York

7-8 Edinburgh (we'll be travelling for most of the 7th, and shooting on the 8th)

9 Leominster (where we'll meet Dudeist priest/magician Mark Townsend)

10-13 London (the Idler Academy event is happening on the evening of the 10th, after that it'll be mostly interviews)

I'll be there for at least part of the London leg, but I might be in it for the whole tour.  You have my number, I have yours, I can send you a text update of what's happening on the Thursday 11th/Friday 12th when/if I know.  I'm sure they'd meet up with one of the great personalities of the institution :)

Me I was just into having an oat soda with Olly actually.
