I just found( on ebay) a bowling medallion, heavy bronze disk about the size of an american half dollar. one side says, 'compliments of the season, bay albert 1904' and the other size has an engraving of a balkl and two pins.
it's cool to have something so old in hand of course and makes me wonder what its history could possibly be, no luck seaching the above quoted words on google yet, but i've found some pretty great pictures of life itself in 1904.
only 107 years ago, man, looks like 500 what with all we've accomplished in just the last 100......

Caesar dude

1904? That's not old!... I've got some Roman coins that that are nearly 2000 years old.....I drink in a pub that's older than the Mayflower....old...pathooey! :)

I recently had a patient who was born in 1910.  On a break I wrote down all the things that she had seen in her lifetime.  It was a LOOOOOONG list.

Besides things like 2 world wars, Vietnam etc...  You have things like TV, the internet, the space program...Just blows my mind dudes.

hey man, im an american living in suburban l.a.! anything before 1950 blows my fucking mind, man! lol!
but seriously, it really does.
and what the fuck is a 'pub'?
jk.

hannahdude

today i got my bowling pin auction win, a pin from THE HOLLYWOOD LANES! WHOO-HOO!

Caesar dude

Fucking hell, Hannah your History gene is clearly easily pleased!

A pub is short for public house or in your parlance a bar where they sell ale or beer! :)

I'm glad you won your pin though dude that's cool! :)

@ Trip. The moon landings, Colour TV, the internet and mobile phones have all occured in my lifetime...and I'm only 47! We have only been flying with powered flight for 108 years and jet powered flight for about 60....remember those are just the first flight dates...I'm an aircraft engineer and have seen massive leaps in technology in my area of expertise since I started...so yep our technology has advanced so much....

However: Mankind has not advanced one bit in it's treatment of other human beings.....we haven't stopped wars and killing ...in fact the only way we have progressed in this area is the efficiency of the weapons we use. Why hack a man to death with a sword when we can stand off a bit and shoot him....why bombard a nation with bombs that require us to actually fly to those countries and drop em when we can sit 5000 miles away in front of a laptop (with a cup of coffee beside you) and direct a drone to place a missile right on your targets head?

Our greatest feats and advancements....flat screen tv's...pre-packaged food...the interweb.....oh and being able to murder and maim from an office....

I ain't too happy with our advanced tech!

Peace man.

I can't tell if you're being serious  ;D

If you are-  He was a writer.  People called what he wrote "Sci Fi", but I personally disagree with that label.

A major theme of his work was that technological progress, just for the sake of being able to do it, was a major negative in humanity.

Here's a quote from a bio of his on nndb.com

QuoteCommon themes in Vonnegut's work include the dehumanization wrought by technology, as well as by bureaucracy and media indoctrination. Sexuality and violence and the myths that spring up around them are also common themes. While Vonnegut's work has sometimes been criticized for flouting accepted narrative conventions, for "sophomoric simplicity", and for vulgarity, there is no mistaking the passion of his underlying arguments -- for pacifism, for socialist equality, and most of all for the need for common decency. Yet what separates Vonnegut from other social commentators and political do-gooders is that he never seemed compelled to elevate himself above the rest of humanity. He portrayed himself, as he did nearly everyone else (hero or villain), as a dumb schmuck struggling to do his best, despite mispatched mental programming and an unsteady world.

Serious lack of a sarcasm font here dude! Maybe all sarcasm should be printed in red!

Yeah I have read his scribblings and agree with the dude.

My thoughts and writings and feelings are entirely my own however!

Peace dudes.

I figured that was the case, but I didn't want to leave you hanging just in case.

Who knows, maybe some young dude perusing the boards said "Kurt who now?" and is making a trip to the library.
