Lucky today

Would like to tell you what happened to me today.

I drove my car through a residential area today, not speeding or anything. On my way to a swim. Feeling rather relaxed on a Saturday morning. There was this bus on the other side of the street (had been oncoming and stopping at a bus stop). The next moment there were two kids (teenagers, in hooded sweat shirts) exactly in front of my car, crossing the street in a run, not looking anywhere, with the fucking hoods over their heads. German streets in residential areas can be narrow.

You know, one of these moments when you realize seconds later what happened and how you responded to the situation - when non-conscious reaction clearly takes over.
So, about a second or so later I realized my car had come to a halt, leaving a black mark on the tarmac from the tyres, perhaps, but  no harm done.
They gave a sheepish glance after they reached the pavement on the other side, surely aware how stupidly they just ran across the street.

Fuck it.
It was close.
Shit, you never know what is coming, do you?

Anyway, I was lucky today, and even more so these two kids. Don't want to think of what might have happened, if  at that moment I had changed the radio channel or did something else that might have distracted my attention for just half a second.
