I just wondered: Are the also Polish dudes around here?
Czy jest/sa tutaj tez Dudes lub Dudas z Polsce?

...z Polski :)
Yep, I come from Poland, don't live there any more though. There's one Pole on our google map, but I've never seen him on the forum.
Why asking?
The Dude abides. I don't know about you but I take comfort in that. It's good knowin' he's out there. The Dude. Takin' 'er easy for all us sinners.

Thanks, jakubol, my Polish is very poor, forgive me. "W Polsce"/ in Poland" and "z Polski/ from Poland"...I try to remember that.

To answer your question: "Lebowski" is a Polish name, and Walter Sobchak is of Polish descendence, too, am I wrong?

Also,  I know the movie has fans in Poland, too.

So I was just curious. Wiec, bylem ciekawy

OK :)

Yes, Lebowski and Sobchak (orig. Sobczak) are typical Polish surnames. Besides the Dude says to Walter that he's no Jew - he's Polish Catholic so it confirms it.
Nice to see you know some Polish. My soon-to-be-brother-in-law, who is Welsh, is trying to learn some and it's not looking good :)

Who does look good, when she or he tries to speak Polish but is not a Pole?  ;D
I love Polish but I think it is damn hard to get a foothold in that language.

Pozdrawiam!

"when she or he tries to speak Polish"

Either way, sounds as if someone's eager to get a bit of Pole in them.

;D I'm sorry but I'm British - sometimes it's hard to resist . . it's in the genes, man.

brother_erwin

Well, CB I knew that a German joke is no laughing matter....
;D

jakubol

@cake: Only if that's a telegraph pole :P
Sorry, but I'm Polish so that probably wasn't that funny. But I know what you mean - British have great sense of humor and you can say to others much more without offending them. Some of the best comedy I've seen in my life is British and it's very popular in Poland - Monthy Python and 'Allo 'Allo being best examples. I'm trying to fit in here and I think I could do worse.

@Erwin: back in my school days I was learning German and in my best days I actually watched some German TV. Star Trek, as it was almost impossible to find on Polish TV, and my number one - TV Total with Stefan Raab. Man, I liked it. The parts I understood, at least :D

I beg to differ: A german is visiting Brazil and in an out of the way little town he recognizes Hitler.  He approaches and claims hhis admiration and that the modern world needs his help. Hitler tells him he is mistaken and tries to dismiss him. The german persists and gives examples of the out of control liberalism ,decadence, lack of respect for authority. Hitler vehemently tells him he is wrong, he's not Hitler. The german tourist is pleading with Hitler to return and lead the Reich to greater glory. Finally Hitler relents and in a whisper says,  you are right, I am Hitler and  I will return and lead the german people to glory and victory,  but on one conndition. The german says of course, anything. Hitler looks him in the eye and says, I will return and I will lead Germany to victory, ......but no more Mr. Nice Guy.  It sounds better when spoken with a german accent.
It's  Brandt,  at that polish fucks office, Mr Lebowski.
