Although the movie of the "Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy" is the least of the canon beside the radio show. book, and TV series you can watch a movie with the hero wearing a bathrobe the whole time.

If you can stand the 70's special effects the TV series on DVD is pretty close.

Otherwise seek out the cd's of the radio show. They go further into the story (expanding the original radio series), and then there's the books, but they get to a point where I think Adams was fulfilling a contractual obligation

I think I caught this the second time it aired.

Most of it's bizarre surrealism comes from the fact that most of the time they were sitting in the BBC canteen half an hour before they were going on air still writting the next episode.

Oh yeah, Dude - I saw the TV show and loved it (missed the radio series, though); just didn't get around to seeing the Hollywood version. Did you UK'ers get to see Dirk Gently yet?

I was actually a bit disappointed they made Gently seem a bigger bread head than I think the book did.
aapart from that it was pretty good, shame there wasn't more.
