What's your take on Dudeism? Why are you a Dude? I know you guys have answered this question elsewhere  - but imagine your're writing it for the book, y'know. It might also be cool to hear about how you incorporate Dudeism into other belief stuctures you may have: Christians, Pagans, Quakers, Atheists, Anarchists . . what have you. Style-wise you can keep it tongue-in-cheek or serious (whatever). You could also invent some system just for a laugh. Have you acknowledged any of the Dudeist holy days; if so, what did you do, how did it go? It would be nice to hear from Dudes who have had some kind of ceremony (or plan to). Good to hear from those who don't think we should have ceremonies (I guess I am with the latter group unless the ceremony is funny/satirical or done to highlight a social/political cause or some such bollocks).
Some open questions:

Is Dudeism a waste of time? Where do you see the movement going (if anywhere)? Should it go anywhere - should it stay, as is? Should we attempt, in some small way, to be a force for good in the world (a loaded topic - whose to decide what's good?) Does my  arse look big in this religion? If you can sum it all up in a haiku or short paragraph, cool - if you want to ramble for a few pages, cool too. Should we make the Dudely Lama shave his head? Got a question? Then pose one. Cheers.
His Dudeness CC Keiser sets thing rolling (nice one).

I have a wish.

I wish to live in a kinder and more compassionate world.

We can philosophize and meditate about what do no harm means, and delve ever
deeper into the essence of doing no harm, but the simple truth is, all that
philosophy and meditation, all that searching for the essence, means little
without a kind and compassionate world to practice in.

If we are to create a kinder and more compassionate world, our simple
message of "do no harm" must make its way into the hearts and minds of those who
need it the most - all 7 billion of us

I have many friends of all different religions, beliefs, backgrounds,
politics, social status and just about any other diversity you care to think of.
When we get together, we do so as friends, and we enjoy each others company in
spite of everything else. Yeah, we argue a bit, but we all respect each other
and our differences. In fact, I think it just may be our differences we
enjoy about each other most.

But one thing we all know; if one falls down, the rest will extend a helping
hand. If one is under duress, we all will come to their rescue.

We know and trust each other not to take advantage, or do any harm.

That is the kind of world we should and must have.

In that kind of world doing no harm is not a hard thing to do, it's not
something we even have to think about, it just comes naturally, in fact, in a world
of friends doing no harm is easy.

We need a world of 7 billion friends.

Thank you for being one of them!

"That there is no truth is difficult for most to accept. It doesn't come naturally to discard beliefs, but I think that is the start of knowledge - while we have beliefs, we force knowledge to become true or false and so destroy its infinite nature."--Unknown.

Skeptical Idealism 2.0 (The Video)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tw-IATxGmis

Skeptical Idealism 2.0

The truth is, we can never know what The Truth is!

If we begin with No-Thingness, then No-Thingness is all we can ever have.
The Empty or Null Set is completely satisfied and beyond entropy or evolution.
It is an impossibility for No-thingness to evolve into Thingness.

We cannot get Something from Nothing!

Since this is the case, where does all this Thingness come from?

It doesn't.
There is no Thingness, there is only the Illusion of Thingness.

We start with Quantum Idealism; the idealist concepts of the Copenhagen Interpretation of Quantum Mechanics which maintains everything is an illusion and there is no-thing physical at all.

Which is different than the Realist/Materialist interpretation of quantum mechanics followed by Super String Theorist still looking for a fundamental vibration to explain the Universe.

The problem with Super String theory is they still need to answer the hard question of where did all those vibrations come from? What started Nothingness to vibrate?

The "New Age" interpretation of the Copenhagen Interpretation maintains the essence of all Reality is pure Consciousness.
Consciousness is the "Emptiness at the heart of all matter"!

If we then  follow that concept to it?s logical conclusion we end up with Skeptical Idealism.

Skeptical Idealism is pure Idealism with a good dose of Skepticism thrown in.

The quantum universe is just as much an illusion as everything else. It is just another choice of something to believe in; something we use to create the illusion that we can know anything at all.
Skeptical Idealism maintains no one can ever really know anything at all beyond their own internal manifestations. No one can ever know with any certainty what they themselves perceive has any independent existence, or any truth, beyond their own perceptions.

We believe what we perceive, but we only perceive what we believe!

All we can ever really know are the illusion we create in our own minds.
And since pure Consciousness is infinite and has no boundaries, our choice of illusions are infinite and have no boundaries.
For every mind there is a different illusion. Some are very very close, but no two are exactly the same.

There really are no answers at all, there are only choices.

Everyone of us exists in our own illusions of what we believe Reality is, but since Consciousness is infinite and unbound, so are the illusions.

For every mind there is a different illusion of Reality.

And since all is illusion, every illusion is just as true and just as good as any other illusion.
It may not be to you, but it is to someone.

"In the province of the mind, what the mind believes to be true,
either is true or becomes true within certain limits to be found
experientially and experimentally. These limits are further beliefs to
be transcended. In the mind there are no limits." - John Lilly

Once we can truly comprehend that The Singularity of Consciousness is not
only Infinite but also Unbound then there are no limits.
All is Infinite and Unbound!

And since all is infinite and unbound there really are no answers; only
choices!

Truth is whatever we each choose to believe it is.
It is our egos that prevents us from admitting that the truth we ourselves
perceive is only our truth and not just one of infinite truths that may not be
true to anyone else.

Since I really believe that is true, than I must admit to myself, that my belief in Skeptical Idealism is also just another illusion also.
Since all is illusion we can not pick and choose and say what someone else believes in is an illusion, but what I believe in is not. All is Illusion, even what I myself believe!

If that sounds like insanity to you, I fully agree. It is insanity, which goes a long way in explaining just about everything we need to know about the mind, life, the Universe and everything.

From the perspective of Skeptical Idealism we are all insane!

No one ever promised Reality must be sane, to assume so, in spite of all evidence to the contrary, is madness.

"When we remember we are all mad, the mysteries disappear and life stands explained."
Samuel Langhorne Clemens

These two posts are full of weighty and worthy words and I agree that what you have both written is pertinent and valid.

I have had a varied and interesting life and in that life I have constantly made choices, some have been "good" and some have been not so "good".  All of my choices have impacted on other human beings though, and therefore their interpretations of my actions have been similarly "good" or not so "good" My Illusion therefore affects others.

I believe in Karma and the fact that what I give out comes back...sometimes really quickly!

I now live in what I like to call my bubble...and in that bubble "bad" things do not happen to me....I use this bubble for mundane things ie getting a parking space and other more serious things....

I'd like to think that by my doing no harm ...no one does harm to me...it does seem to work since I've been employing it actively for the last three years...I believe it's called positive thinking...or creating your own reality... I've been told that my bubble may be burts one day but I don't believe that or employ that in my thinking...so far so good! :)

I was on active service for several years and seen and did a lot of shit....Nothing that I was ever ashamed of you understand and always justified by the fact that my actions and the actions of others around me were legally sanctioned.....it was many years before I truly understood the moral implications of what I had been doing. I won't hurt a fly now (literally) I try and protect all life around me even under duress (see the previous posts on wasps).   ;)

Dudeism to me has very little to do with the Dude...(he's a character in a film after all) it's the philosophy of taking her easy that appeals to me....and I don't say that as a cop out so I don't have to work and just bum off the state...(in fact I disagree with that. An example: A neighbour of mine in his 30's, stays at home all day...smokes weed...chills and claims benefits...including disability, because he's got a dodgy leg.....the reason he has this bad leg is that when he was a teenager he stole a motorbike and was involved in a collision while running from the police. His reward is prescription drugs for the pain and a get out of work permit for life. (Incidentally I have a chronic back pain from a fall that I had a few years ago whilst employed by the Government chasing a baddie!) I'm on pain killers for life, They're stronger than the ones my neighbour has and I still work. Taking her easy for me has a lot more to do with my outlook on life a way of not getting involved in the petty, stupid disagreements....hey dude, cut me up on the motorway...years ago I'd have chased you....now I'll bless you and say" have a nice day..take it easy man. Vaya con Dios" It isn't worth getting het up over.

We don't all have to work for "the man" in order to make a living...that I agree with, a mate of mine grows the herb and sells it to make his way in life...he's not a major dealer just a guy getting by.

Anyhoo...I'm not so good with the pretty words and maybe now I'm rambling. So for what it's worth that's my twopenny's worth and a little insight to the workings of my mind.

Peace dudes.

Thankee Caesar Dude!

Yes, you speak the truth as I know it.
Here's a little something else you may enjoy dude.

BTW, the related video "There are no answers. There are only choices." was made from another of my early essays. I had just met the young lady who made them and did not know they were being made...was surprised to see them.

Thankee again Caesar dude. All I got left is my Poly-Solipsism, (not in video form) but that sort of got lost in the Skeptical Idealism 2.0. It was sort of make moot once you get down the rabbit hole.
I lost my poly-solipsism web site back a few months go when I changed my isp. I had it stuck in the free web space my old isp provided and have not bothered to move it to the free space from my new isp.
Maybe one of these days, but I have gotten real lazy lately! ;D

I tell you man, when you lose your isms it's generally for the best but I'm glad you remembered to remember where you forgot them....

I'm a bit of a wanderer myself...seen a few....been near a few....and then, gosh darn it, fell down a few.....those rabbit holes are quite intriguing.....I believe some some quantum shit may lay down there!

An excerpt from my Who Am I? poem:

Most of my youth I spent launching rockets
And sticking my fingers in electrical sockets.

My reading lists were all science and fiction.
And Science became my full time addiction.

I followed Science through to the last
And landed in Wonderland right on my ass!

I was hoping you would not ask. I sort of regretted posting it almost as soon as I did. But you got me talking about myself and I got carried away. I do that sometimes! ;D
It doesn't really fit on this forum. I use it as my profile/introduction on the few writing and poetry forums I have been on. I'm afraid it's not very dudely.

Who am I?

I was born in 46; just a little past the middle.
I came in, I am told, with a giggle and a wiggle!

My formative years were spent mostly dreaming.
Which had all my teachers howling and screaming.

Most of my youth I spent launching rockets
And sticking my fingers in electrical sockets.

My reading lists were all science and fiction.
And Science became my full time addiction.

I followed Science through to the last
And landed in Wonderland right on my ass!

I came to writing rather late in my life.
Right around fifty; no kids but a wife.

In the middle of the night by the Muse I was woken
and wrote my first story drinking coffee and smokin'.

What a joy; what a thrill, what an absolute delight!
And most of the words were even spelled right!

Now I was hooked and ensnared by the Muse
To write into wee hours whatever she choose.

A poem or a fable, or a great tale of woe
Poured from my pen with no place to go.

Month after month, year after year
The stories and poems now stack to Here!

A few I've let go for not even a cent.
But the joy they all bring is worth what I spent.

Not that it matters to me or my wife.
She knows what I'm doing for the rest of my life!

Who am I is the question I ponder at night.
The answer it seems...I am what I write.

Wtf are you blathering about, man? It's perfectly Dudely - you are a Dude therefore what ever you write is Dudely. You talkin' about the creative process - are Dudes not allowed to talk about that? There are no set guidelines, Dude - let your Muse fly as she will - we are really enjoying the results. Love it, man. Keep rolling (in a hurry, can't write more)  ;D
