Hi Dudes,

I' d like to open up this new thread, which is to collect all the moments where our beloved characters in fact ARE wrong.

I start with a few probably well known examples, but I am sure there are more:

Of course we know: The Pomeranian is not a Pomeranian but a West Highland Terrier

We know: The marmot is not a marmot but a ferret.

How about this then: The Rambam aka Moses Maimoneded did not live in the 14th but in the 12th century

The nihilist nine-toed woman says in German she wants a  Heidelbeerpfannkuchen, which is a huckleberry or blueberry-pancake (in Britain I think also bilberry  ??? ) but Uli orders for her a lingonberry pancake (which is a different kind of berry).

I mean you can read the whole movie as a movie about misnoming things, can you not?

What else is there in TBL where the characters themselves err on some thing or the other?
Demonstrating to all us sinners how fragile our constructions about the world around us really are.

Yeah, what do you think?

The Dude's peace be with you

Actually it's not a West Highland.  It's a Carin Terrier (like Toto).  My mom has a Carin and her mom has a Westie.  They look close but the one in the movie is definitely a Carin.

Much obliged, Uberdude, much obliged for this!

Glad to be of service Dude.  Thanks for starting the conversation.  Pretty freakin' interesting, man.  This Dude really digs looking for movie mistakes. : )

Well, to be honest, UD, I don't see them as mistakes necessarily. I could imagine they put all that in there deliberately. As I said, the whole movie, somehow is also about "misnoming", is it not? So why shouldn't the characters misnome trivial things as well. Of course, we just don't know, but I hope it is a bit of fun anyway.

I think it's on the extras to "The Man Who Wasn't There" where one of the interviewees says that there are mistakes (not just continuity) in most famous films but if the scene has captured the right feeling then there is little point in re-doing it.

A lot of mistakes in information in films tends to be budget driven, small budget equals little time to research everything.

Or with the dog it probably went something like:

"The script says the dog is a Pomeranian. That is not a Pomeranian!"

"You're lucky its a fucking dog man, just get on with it."
"I have noticed even people who claim everything is predestined, and  that we can do nothing to change it, look before they cross the road."

Yeah, like in the script Walter and The Dude are supposed to be at Point Dume to spread Donny's ashes, but they were actually at Sunken City.
It took detectives digitalbuddha and cakebelly working in shifts to figure that one out!

Well it's like this brandt dude, I already got my Folgers Coffee can picked out and I don't want my ashes tossed just anywhere. I would like my ashes to join Donny's in the bosom of the Pacific at the exact spot one of these days.

Lotta ins, lotta outs, now we just need to establish when the scattering of the ashes actually took place.

Well sure digitalbuddha dude, we'll keep looking, and maybe add two more detectives to the case...working in shifts! But I believe the dudes down at the office have settled on March 5th as the day to commemorate the Day Donny Died. It's not official yet, as it hasn't been posted to the official calendar yet, but it seems to be the consensus...at least till further notice.

;D Yeah? What do you think happens when you get divorced?  You turn in your library card? Get a new driver's license? Stop being Jewish?
