Controversial Drug Given to All Guantanamo Detainees Akin to "Pharmacologic Waterboarding" .........Darkness warshed over the detainees--darker'n a black steer's tookus on a moonless prairie night. There was no bottom.

What I don't understand, and please forgive me in this difference of opinion, as it is just an opinion of a difference of understanding. Is that how can the same people in journalism, and in general, bash wikipedia for being unreliable, and yet embrace wikileaks so warmly? Numerous journalist sites are now making wikileaks VERY popular. But it's still common to hear how inaccurate and bogus anything on wikipedia is, even though it's the same concept.

Information that isn't tied to a 'official standardized source'

im for wikipedia, in fact, i think text books and most universities have some very narrow minded and often rigid material that can be easily described as just as unofficial.

Information is easy to manipulate.

i feel even worse for china.

im optimistic things will change for the better.
You're damned if you dude, you're damned if you don't.

 8) Journalism is a funny thing - what is news and what is news-worthy? As you know, a handful of people control the media; they tell us what the news is, what is important to our society, etc. They sell-tell us what is funny, what is fashionable what is worthy of our concern . . well, you get the air-brushed picture. They are the 'standardized source'. I don't have anything against Wikipedia I use it a lot - I think a lot of people may be down on it because it does undermine the text book/student books scam you got going over here (fucking outrageous that a text book can frequently cost 200 plus bucks here - and the universities get a back-hander if they push the latest edition - which is bullshit). Fuck it, anyway.

I hear a a lot of media-folk refer to themselves as 'Journalists' these days - nothing could be further from the truth. Most are mere corporate propagandists and nothing more. We tend not to hear from the real Journalists - the ones who are left - because they are generally not employed by the big corporations. When big business call the shots, when the news is - to all intents and purposes - censored so heavily that it can't be called anything else BUT propaganda then those few individuals who put their heads above the parapets by attempting to tell the truth - or report a version of the truth that differs from the acceptable hymn sheet (so to speak) - should be supported (even if we don't agree with what they are saying).

The fuckers have their hands in everything, the fuckers will not stop - wikileaks may churn out crap, it is inevitable that they should; but not all of it is crap, it's shit we need to know.

Celebrate the Journos while we can before they are killed (the smears have already begun) - it is the stance they are taking more than what is reported. They are risking their lives, right now - that shit just ain't right.

Wikipedia is a great resource - here's a link to a worthy fuckin' Journalist Dude (well worth reading any of his books) . . just so we can remind ourselves of how it used to be, how it should be. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Pilger

Anyway, Dude - don't apologize for having a different opinion (or understanding) - fuck that, it's your right.  It ain't really different, anyway, but it was a rather dramatic way, I thought, to close my post - fuckin' spoilt it now  ;D

In a time of universal deceit, telling the truth is a revolutionary act.

;) Oddly enough, speaking of Pilger & Wikileaks, I found this, today: http://www.greenleft.org.au/node/45225

Another good find.

I wonder at the fact that the founder of Wikileaks is suddenly wanted for "Sexual Crimes" in Switzerland, especially reading in your quoted article that "US intelligence intends to "fatally marginalise" Wikileaks."

Hum interesting!

Also I like the fact you quote Orwell here. In 1984 Winston Smith himself works for the Ministry Of Truth where he removes "Un-persons" from historical documents so the record of their existence is eradicated.

S'right, Dude - the mad carnival will never stop . . best a Dude can do, I guess, is to find room,  between the insane drum beats that seem intent on mashing our minds into oblivion, a Dudely space, a bridge from the chords of despair (if you will) to dance his/her own discordant steps.

Speaking of 'her' . . where are all the lady Dudes? I recruited one (she hasn't made an appearance on the forum yet), well, two - if you count Mrs. Cakes (and who wouldn't count her). Okay, here's a challenge; active forum Dudes, try and recruit a lady Dude (not a 'Dudette - a 'Dude' with a vagina) before the end of year holidays and get them on the forum. Why? Well, why not? Evangelical issues aside - this whole Dudeism thing is getting a bit 'priestly' if you get my drift. I'll go into why I insist on calling vagina-Dudes "Dudes' some other time.

EDIT: I believe the English street patois term is still; "have it you slags!": http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JeTw_p_WglY&feature=fvw

Have a dig around there are a number of threads already on the proper nomenclature for female Dude being Dude, not Dudette, as far as my ravaged memory recalls. ;D.

Oh, okay - thanks for the tip; if it is more or less done & dusted then it'll save me crapping on about it.

Have to include this (especially in light of recent posts): US to Host World Press Freedom Day (oh, the irony): http://www.boingboing.net/2010/12/07/us-to-host-world-pre.html

Sorry I have to turn into a twelve year old for a second:

(twelve year old mode on)

OMG!

OMFG!

OMG, OMG, OMG.

(twelve year old mode off)

Finally.

And what do they mean by "Doctor Who Inspired", sod them Douglas Adams was there before the Doctor whop people went that weird, in fact it was probably Adams that inspired the new Edgier Doctor Who content.

Bloody Peasants.

More poor journalism.

The BBC is not what it used to be.

(soap box away, saunters off in no particular direction, attempting to whistle nonchalantly, fails badly because I can't whistle).
