I have been doing my research on the Rasta movement since I got into Peter Tosh, it seems that there is a lot of intertwing hairs in these to ideologies. Both are "a way of life," and have many similarities. They smoke weed, sure for the spiritual act but, it always feels spiritual to me. The rastarian culture does not involve itself with politics, a lot of them don't vote at all. They are mostly vegetarian and thy reject western society. Above all, they are a peaceful movement, and say that things like race need to be set aside for peace. If you know more about Rastafari or if I'm wrong on anything don't hesitate to speak up, I just thought this was a cool movement and it reminded so much of this great religion of ours.
You want a toe. I can get you a toe.

I want to talk about how bad you make this room look.

Dude Here.

Caesar dude

Whow Dude!

Serendipidty abounds!

I just opened a thread on "the weed and the reverend" A thought that's been banging around this small brain for a few days now. Closed the post and read down...!!!

Cool man....I have to agree with what you say........too many similarities to be anything else!

Well dude, we just know. While I'll admit there are some interesting similarities...I'm talking about weed here, there are many things about the Dude that wouldn't fit into the spiritual pursuits of our basic brother rasta man. Many of these Dude like qualities would seem very "Babylon" to a Rasta bro.

A few would be..................

"The rastafarian culture does not involve itself with politics" ..... The Dude was a member of the Seattle Seven and helped to write the first draft of The original Port Huron Statement,  not the compromised second draft. And, the dude was into Lenin.

"They are mostly vegetarian" ..... The Dude enjoyed In and Out Burgers. A few beers, a few burgers; our troubles are over, Dude. (those are good burgers, Walter).

"and they reject western society." ..... the Dude didn't reject Western society, in fact, he seemed to embrace much of it...Creedence, Bowling, Beer, Classic music and dance, a nice pad you got here, Jackie, White Russians, a bowing pin roach pipe, cash machines, his trusty Sony walkman, and of course his rug that tied the room together.

"Above all, they are a peaceful movement," .... Well, I think the Dude was mostly peaceful, but he had his moments like...

Get out of that fucking car, man!

Who the fuck are you, man!  Come on, man!

Who the fuck are you?  Why've you been following me?  Come on, fuckhead!

That's just like, my opinion, man.

The only disappointment I personally had when looking into the Rasta faith was the discovery that they are actually a branch of christianity.

Which as a Pagan (now Dudeist Pagan) didn't fit my view of things.

My cousin (in law) is Rastafari and he and I agree on most everything.  pretty much the only difference between his beliefs and mine is that he "knows" there is a god and he is all powerful.  I have no idea, but if there is a god, it is my belief that he is no better than I am, because every being in this big ol' whatever you call it is equal.
