Fuckin' A Duders!
Like I said, in 2 or 3 years, i'm buying land. I've been dreaming it into existance for a while now.
I'm going to keep it totally Dudeish tho...total respect for the whole gig

That sounds like a fabulous idea! I should be on my spiritual journey by then, so I'll be sure to stop by for a while and contribute my time and hopefully some money by then. I tried to find you on Facebook but to no avail.
To be dude is both a philosophy and a way of life.

Zen Dog

Well it floats my boat.
It's similar to an idea for a micronation I tried to get going on a long defunct website.
(loads of people chip in a small amount, buy a farm, small resident population, everyone else comes and goes as they please at no cost except a little work).
If you believe you can tell me what to think.
I believe I can tell you where to go.

ispamforfood

I'd totally be down with the idea, but I'm broke right now... I wouldnt mind a lil summer barbecue somewhere in Mass or something.... Just a lil day get-together or whathaveyou.....  Cook some steaks, drink some oat soda, smoke a j (I don't, but everyone else can if they like :-p )

I'm sure there'd be a lot of ins, lot of outs, lot of what have yous, but we could work something out.... Maybe a labor day party in Boston?

Rev. Gary (revgms)

Spam, we should hook up, I am between Boston and Maine all the time.

I love this idea, when do we start the money drive to get this ball rolling? It would be great to have a gathering place for Dudevents. On site monastery? A working example of Dudeism in practice, yeah mang stellar idea.

It's certainly something to consider - I like the idea in theory but in practice, when all the Dudes are takin' it easy (collective noun for a group of Dudes: A Mellow?), who's going to be taking care of the cake situation? I will put the idea to Her Dudeness (my wife, aka Busmom) and see what occurs. There are plenty of Desert Lots for sale, at the moment in these here parts. Maybe one day there will be dozens of Dude-munes across the land.

PS. Couldn't find you (Wendy Nixon) on Facebook;  I'm on there as Roberto Rancid

Rev. Dudeski

"my objective is to live as  nicely and at the same time as simply as possible. wind power, if possible , solar power/battery. rain barrels. chickens. organic garden. many here already live that way. ..i know one family totally off the grid. they live in a yurt  with all above mentioned.
for me, i'm thinking a double wide for me and the achievers. then room for tenters, etc"
-quote from Rev. Wendy

This is exactly what I've been looking for!  I could dig that year around.  My only issues would be with my two small children, of course my wife is a teacher so she could school the little achievers.  Man this sounds exciting!

Hmmm, excitement curdled.I found this thread and then was bummed that it seem's to have died out. Come October 2012 finances are no longer an issue for me. I've been looking into this idea for quite sometime (10-20 years) just was never able to break away from the rat race and chill.
The time is now, maybe this topic can be revived. I am willing to pitch in on the purchase of a Dudes Retreat(Monastery?)! Remember fellow dudes, we can utilize our 501(c)3 if in the USA and enjoy another benefit. If in a medical marijuana friendly location I for one would become a semi- permanent resident.
Fire up a fatty and lets look at this idea again!

If you look into MI laws they seem legit for MMJ and on the east coast of lake MI is good agriculture land that is available cheap. I can't really help out money wise but would work for food some work being growing food IE fish farming and plant growing plus chicken raising and such.  Mushroom growing on brewing wastes and paper products would be fun as well. A large scale brewery and getting a license to distill would be a goal of mine in the future if I lived and worked there.

I would also like to get a card for MMJ so I could eat a cookie for back pain once a year or so if needed as them vicodin make my rectum back up something fierce.

Hey Cookiemeat, MI wouldn't be a bad place but looking at land prices, I think it's not a viable option. While the land prices I'm finding may be cheap by midwest standards, they are far out of my league! So far the best MI price I have found is about $4000 for a quarter acre for unimproved land. couple that with building codes, and the cost of required improvements, I have to say it's a no-go.

If it is started keeping it a non profit but working farm with green tek being used grants are available. Loans to get crops and livestock with the USDA could be used as well. One thing about something like this is to not really seek donations from members that could become corrupt later like the evangelicals in the south but keeping it a working farm that produces goods for sale and to members but some goods could be beer? Booze? If the place is way out in the middle of no where no tours of the facility would happen,no retail store on site would be viable. My dream of a dudeist retreat would be a day to day chilled out laid back farm where shit gets done and done right to make sure we could feed the monkey of the place but make it sweet like on a lake with little resort style cabins for rest to tourists and dorms for the dudes. A nice lodge for breakfast with a full kitchen including a waffle maker for cornbread waffles lathered in chili and a nice ice cream maker that doubles as a frozen drink maker. A large brewery/distillery in an outbuilding near the fishfarm/aquaponics greenhouses then another series of smaller buildings or converted containers for mushroom growing out of the farm and brewing wastes. A large biogas digestor rocking out the poogas to power a generator and all the steam needed to power the brewery. Sorry for the rant just my dream facility would be awesome to have up and running some day.

I have many ideas on living off the grid and with my electrical/mechanical backround i can make it happen, or explain to those of you who wish to do it.

Get a dude to run you a gassifier for some of the day, free electricity and natural gas from wood chips and burnable biomass (grass, leaves, sticks w/e). Can also turn the same machine into a boiler for hot water with a simple thermostat+water pump. 10 or 20 car batteries should provide more than enough power, keep a solar system on it just to keep it hot and run the gassifier generator 1-2 times a day to make sure your power demands are always met.

Hey FungiFox dude, welcome to our beach community and dudetopian rug pad! Grab an oat soda and abide, mang!

I've been having thoughts up this very same ally for many years now.
Before i discovered Dudeism, my idea for a commune was art based- a community of artists of all kinds, that created art together, shared that art with the world for a reasonable fee, and used all the proceeds to grow and improve the commune. Now that I'm a Dudeist, of-course the commune would be Dudeism concentric! Really, there should be Dudeist Live/Work centers in every state, in every country!
The challenge is how to design and plan the centers so that they are, Green, Off the Grid, and sustainable.
Perhaps some kind of Committee?
I'm still new to the church, so I don't know what is or isn't already a project.

May Peace, Love, and Grooviness be with you... Always!
