The Bush quote was not dug up to provide a source for the Dude. The line "This aggression will not stand" was taken from Bush. The Dude borrows words and phrases from others and recycles them.

On a somewhat related note, the last victim of Jack the Ripper was killed on November 9, 1888. Look at me, I'm ramblin' agin'...

Gematria value of Ramblin'=69=Cancer the crab=Donny Karabatsos.

I agree, they just needed to use/show it at some point, so that the dude can be seen to borrow it.
like parlance, who uses that word first?, I love the play on words
This repeating the word or phrase to appear smart, this is such a learning thing and important part of the movie. From the near the start of the movie, "You're Lebowski, Lebowski!"

That's cool Lightweight, I dig it, but to anyone who thinks that the information that appears in the film has no deeper meaning, I say You might be a Nihilist! Every name, number and date in this film is chock full o' meaning.

If you only knew the meaning of the Folger's coffee can it would blow your freakin' mind, man!

According to my calculations, The film begins on the night of Aug.5/morning of Aug.6/1990. Aug.5/90 was the date of the "This will not stand" comment by Bush41. The Dude saw the replay on the late news. The interesting connection to this date is the Groundbreaking ceremony at the WTC, Aug.5/1966.

Rev. Elbowski :
go ahead, tell me the Folgers story, Blow my freakin mind, man.. Sir.

I already have a coffee can ready and labeled, so those "final decisions" are easy for my family. Not Folgers.

I think it was a way of making groups like this think and talk.  Every great cult film has these lovely little nuggest in it.

Since I'm convinced that 9/11 was an inside job to give those Fascist scum a public excuse for the Patriot Act and a war or two I would say the logic, if there is a literal connection, works the other way around. The date 9/11 was already established, as well as "911", and the Coen Bros reference comes from there. Years later when our unelected Fascist leaders decided to pull off this shit they purposely used that date because of said meaning already in existence.

Did a web search. Sept. 11, 1991 was the date of Papa G. H Bush's New World Order speach.
It looks as if the Dude wrote the check on the 8th or 9th.
"Tomorrow is already the 10th Dude. Just slip the rent under my door."

As the check and the date are right in your face, you know it was no accident.

Not to try and split hairs, I made this mistake too. The speech Bush made to congress was on Sept 11, 1990 not 1991, http://www.presidency.ucsb.edu/ws/index.php?pid=18820&st=&st1= was his "New world Order speech". His "this Aggression will not stand" speech was on August 5th 1990 http://www.presidency.ucsb.edu/ws/index.php?pid=18741&st=&st1= Some You tube post have him giving the "New World Order" speech a year later than the actual speech. Which just confuses shit all the more.
