This is the one thing I can't seem to wrap my mind around.
The good and thorough doctor bit. I mean, the whole "looking out my backdoor" song after...he's all happy, I mean, he DID get a blow/hand job, right?
LOL All these years, and I can't see the Dude as being bisexual. I don't know why not, since I'm bisexual myself, and I'm sure I don't look the part. Whatever that part is.
But , just in case I somehow misunderstood this part of the movie; at the risk of being totally embarrassed, I gotta know, that IS what happened, right?

Well, I mean, nobody talks about that part really, and I honestly can't come up with any other...I mean...the good and thorough doctor, as Dude says "So..the doctor" "yes what did you think this was all about" the doctor, man, let us not forget..the doctor, I mean, he did get a semen sample? and why else was Dude so happy, rocking out as he drove home after?

I mean, am I over the line here?

I have pondered this scene quite a bit, and from having seen the movie about 50 times now i believe that the doctor was going to give the dude a fertility test (check balls n prostate) by order of maude, hence her insistance on him going to see him, and her selection of him to knock her up. I believe she had planned this from the moment they met. Hence the 'thorough' doctor. Dudes just chuffed afterwards cuz the doc probs said he was mega-fertile - that or its completely unrelated and hes just happy to have his car back with his creedence, oat soda, and spliff...

My understanding of that scene is that he's trying very hard to move past what happened in the doctor's office. The doctor had done some invasive tests to check fertility, stds, and whatever else Maude might have wanted checked out before she got the Dude to help her conceive. The Dude to me seems to be surrounding himself in things he loves to help him move past the situation. Hence the Creedence, J, and oat soda. I didn't see anything sexual about it. Contrast his attitude in that scene to the deep calm he has after helping Maude conceive. Interesting interpretation though. And ya, I think as Dudeists our coolness should expand beyond race.

Dudes, I have read all the comments, and as much as I can't see The Dude with another male Dude......it just seems to be what was going on there!
I mean, "drop you pants" "no, it was my jaw" "drop your pants please" and Dude looks at him and then....rocking out on his car with "my back door" playing, come ON!

Maude had the dude checked out as a potential mate. The dude
had no idea this was the case.
She had layed the ground work by hinting that the doctor was "thorough".
The dude is not Bi. At least there is no hint of it in the movie.
I would bet that he's cool with it but I don't see any sign that he is bi.
He confirms that the doctor examined him for fertility in the movie after Maude
tells him she'd trying to conceive. He realizes why she wanted him to go
to the doctor.

Doesn't rule out doing it himself manually, and in fact the DIY is the usual way of collecting such samples.

I just finished reading the script for something I'm putting together and I can't see your inference.

I go with what Bikerdude said. The Dude is not that bothered with what happened. I have had examinations by male doctors that were personally invasive this doesn't mean I'm gay. It's part of doctor patient professional relationship. You can't accuse every gynecologist of having an affair with every patient they examine.

I think this may be a case of Freudian transference. You identify highly with the Dude therefore you are bound to over emphasise issues that build more similarities between yourself and the character.

All just my opinion of course.

Has it occurred to you Sir that the Dude was singing on the way home (while enjoying a J, I might add) because he found out at the doctor's office that Maude wanted to have a child (but not with someone that she would have to see socially) and that he was to be the dick to help her conceive, man?

That he, the Dude, was about to get some fine socialite pussy free of charge? That he, the Dude, was about to help his new lady friend conceive, sir?

I don't believe he knows at this point that he's going to help her conceive man. He didn't know until after the deed was done. I still think that the Dude is self-medicating after some invasive medical examination. You don't rock out when a stranger fucks you in the ass, you destroy their car.

But seriously, I just can't see the bisexuality thing.
