I think Marty is pretty similar to Donny. He seems to me the kind of shy, good hearted person that most of the times you feel glad to help. That's why the Dude goes to see his "show" even if he knows it's a bad show. It seems to me that Marty doesn't feel happy to ask for Dude's money, but he has to. That's only my opinion dudes.

That comment struck me as enlightened/or amazing. <this is me not joking for a change> I have heard from friends in the native community, that at least one indian nation(Cree) does not have a word for gay/lesbian/homosexual, they instead say "person with two souls" which is amazing and lines up with your joking comment. (I believe there is a fragment of truth in every joke)

elbowski, your rhyming is very compelling but I still maintain that the Dude is not bi. So you go see your landlord's one-man play-type thing and all of a sudden you're some strumpet giving out sexual favours to keep a roof over your head? I think not.

I'd just like to note that the Dude's sexual desires do not surface much at all in the film. He doesn't really pursue anyone or hint at any sort of attraction. Maude has to disrobe and throw herself at the Dude and even then he jokes around and comments on the robe instead of making some sort of horny remark.

The one exception is the dream sequence during which the ol' Duder exhibits some pretty heterosexual male thoughts. No Saddam in a G-string or Brandt in some sort of french maid outfit. Nope. Lots of chicks in short skirts and he floats between their legs.
