They've been doing this for a number of years.
August 1 this year in celebration of Jerry's 75th birthday.

In celebration of what would have been Jerry Garcia’s 75th birthday, meet up with friends and fellow Dead Heads in cinemas nationwide for the 7th Annual Grateful Dead Meet-Up at the Movies. This special one-night event features the band’s compete, never-before-seen performance at RFK Stadium in Washington D.C. on 7/12/1989. This year’s concert features a rare first set that contains at least one song sung by each of the four lead singers and a terrific show-opening rendition of the band's biggest hit “Touch Of Grey.” The show’s second set begins with a very uncommon second-set opener, “Sugaree,” two songs with Bruce Hornsby sitting in (“Sugaree,” and “Man Smart [Woman Smarter]”), plus one of the only video recorded versions of “Black Muddy River.”

That brings up a good question, BD; how many Dudeists are also Dead Heads?

The Rev Dave Man has been a big fan of the dead since the late 70's.  The first concert I ever went to was where the Buffalo Bills played (Rich Stadium).  It was Bob Dylan, TP & the Heartbreakers, and the Grateful Dead.  We turned it into a 3 day acid infused spectacle, by the time the Dead took the stage I was "in no condition to perform" but fortunately I wasn't required to do much but abide.  I still turn on the Dead almost daily at some point to find my absolute zero.
I'm calmer than you are

I remain unable to enunciate exactly what I like about the dead but I just find that with the campfire is burning, and beers being consumed, and the occasional number being burnt, the Dead are a wonderful background. It's not overt. Just some unique mojo that works for chilling.
