I've been living the life of the dude as best I can for these past years but I'm finding it harder and harder each day to continue without being more undude by the day. Being a recent college grad in Media it's made me more cynical, discovering the truth behind the lies of the media and having to work with uptight nihilist actors has made it increasingly hard to stay dude when I know the world is so crazy. Having friends who are usually too occupied with pushing for that new flashy phone, designer label or drinking for the sake of getting pissed out their minds, not slowing down to take a step back is rubbing off on me. Few in my age range seem to understand the concepts of Dudeism in this manic age.

So what's a dude to do when he's losing his way, can't find any other dudely dudes for support and is at the end of his rag with the corperate bullshit, fakery and shit that is so hard to abide everyday? What would you dudes do? How do you abide each day knowing the majority of the world is pissing on each others rugs? Theres only so many times I can just say "Fuck it" and go mellow out. $:-\$

I'm about the same age as you, man. And what you said about the dudely dream being dead in England, it's almost the same in Chicago too. For me, going through college has made me the most undudely person I've been since I was about 13 years old. The stress and clinical depression has taken its toll on me after moving back from New Jersey after a year and a half. Now I have some more lady problems and other bullshit since I've been home, but you just have to move through it. Forget about the fucking toe. Fuck it, Dude; let's go bowling. And I recently heard a piece of advice from an old professor named Morrie Schwartz, 'make your own culture'. Meaning do what pleases you and fuck everyone else. But dude, I am definitely there for dudely support within our age rank. Peace, dude.

And I have to agree, in this period of time, and at this age, it's pretty hard to be a dude. Sure, you can pretend to be by slacking off, gettin' high and suchlike, but that ain't really a Dude, that's just a stoner. And plenty of guys I know who do just that are still ridicuously opinionated and uptight as well. And studying art doesn't help either, because I've just realised that pretty much all the kids who sit opposite me (we work around a still-life in the middle of the room) in art class are pretty much nihilists and pessimists, constantly complaining about how shit their work is. But I've actually once shown them that if they just stop whining and whinging and just take a more simple route, things work out better (Comparing them and me, they want to create great works of art that speak to people. I just like to paint pretty pictures).
But I have found that simply sitting back and letting be does help alot in school. It means I get to avoid a whole lotta typical schoolyard drama. While those other guys are beating eachother up over whether that point counted in ping-pong or bitching about who banged who, I just hang about in the library with some of the less-uptight lower-school kids and draw stuff. The other guys in my year might think that's weird of me, but why the hell should I care what they think?

Hey. I'm not new to TBL but I'm new to dudeism, which brings me here. I'm not new to spirituality though.

I'm 18.

By the way, some dubstep is extremely dude. Not Skrillex and Doctor P, etc, but listen to some old Benga or Skream and tell me it's not dude.

I'm 21, 22 in October. I'm lucky because my friend revpurdy who is just a year or two older than me is also a Dudeist. He's the one who led me to Dudeism and I couldn't be happier since joining the church of the latter-day dude! Still it's nice to know that there are other Dudeists out there in our age range!

Also while I can abide with electronic music, I think rap and hip-hop and even most new pop songs suck. Rock is where it's at for me. Especially classic rock and post-grunge music!

I think it's hard for anyone to abide in a world gone crazy, but it's not impossible. And it really does help when there are others your age with the same mindset, but lets not forget that we can always take care of our private residences and be happy in this crazy world we live in.

Being a dude doesn't mean you have to give up aspirations to help others, does it? Med students have rough lives, and then it gets better. They can take those crap years, the experience, everything they learned in and out of the classroom and better those around them with that far fucking out knowledge.

Sometimes life is tough. Abiding evens out those peaks and troughs. There are a bunch of us that were born after Lennon (and Lenin) died. Growing in dudeism just comes with time.

Twenty-nine years old now now, and I used to hang with a lot of very very dude guys in high school and college. Growing up in rural Indiana is not the most fertile of dude cultivation areas. They don't give a damn about the new hot phone or suckle on the corporate tit. We all dug good music, good times and good buzzes and really abided a long time ago. There was about 10 of us who were close friends.

I was the most angry aggressive Walter-type of the group but they still all loved and accepted me, just like the dude would have. Now though, 8 yrs removed I see that they were all right. I was being un-dude for the most part. It wasn't until the last year or so I have really learned to relax. I could have learned a lot from my buds back then.

Side note, saw them a couple months ago at a wedding and was very pleasantly surprised to see everyone is still being very dude. They were just as happy and chill as 10 yrs prior and this dude couldn't be happier.

I guess what I was really trying to say Elando is that, there's a lot of dudes out there. You will meet some. My dudely friends have brought more dudely friends into the circle and it has grown. If there can be a hotbed of abiding and dude-ness in Indiana, there has to be more in many more unexpected places.

Just abide man. I got a bottle top on my Magic Hat beer the other day that said "As you live and learn, dig and be dug in return."

Hey man, the other day I may have aged into a seventeen year old, and though I have yet to come across another Dude, let alone one of my age, I believe that they're out there, and one day I'll run into them and share a J on a peeless rug with a Dylan track rolling in the background.
