Two possible candidates, purely for speculation purposes of course, since this is an issue not addressed in the official Cannon of Dudiesm (that being the script of 'The Big Lebowski).

First possibility: November 20, 1949

Birthdate of Jeff Dowd, the original inspiration for the character that became 'The Dude' in the movie.

Second possibility: December 4, 1949

Birthdate of Jeff Bridges.

The dude looks about 50 at the time the flick sets the date/year; circa...

Now this story I'm about to unfold took place back in the early nineties--just about the time of our conflict with Sad'm and the Eye-rackies.

That puts it at 1991. The dude looks about 50 or 51, that would set the dude's birthday at around 1939 or 1940. If he was born in 1940, that would have put him in college (in the hippy 60's era) at the age of about 25.

Personally, I see little resemblance between Jeff Dowd and the Dude at all. I think Dowd is not much of a role model for the Dude. Only a very few similarities like he went to college and protested..so did a million other people. Jeff Dowd seems to be all about being famous as much as he can and the center of attention when he shows up at Lebowski parties, etc. The Dude craved not these things.

I think that Jeff Bridges have a lot of The Dude, maybe for his clothes, for his website, a very cool site, and I don?t know, for me he?s the Dude, the real Dude. He?s very afable with the Dude?s fans and he understand that there?s a lot of Dudes around the world.

Totally agree! I also think that Jeff Bridges is MUCH MORE like the dude of The Big Lebowski than Jeff Dowd any day!

Jeff Bridges is the mental image that comes into mind for most anyone whenever the name 'Dude' is spoken of, that or a long haired surfer type, or male escort... uh lost my train of thought here.

But yeah, anyway, Bridges has way more charisma and truck loads more talent. I'd be willing to bet that Dowd is probably lazier though.

And for fuck's sake, I read somewhere that White Russians aren't even Dowd's favorite drink! This aggression will not stand man!
