Televangelists Exploiting the Gullible

This video, featuring Peter Popoff, is the first of several that illustrates how TV evangelists prey upon the naive and gullible with their foolishness. It is disgraceful that TV stations allow these dangerous hucksters to practice their superstitious nonsense on our airwaves.

I'm so glad we don't have anything like that over here in the UK. In fact, a few years ago, we had a show where we got a guy to pretend to be a televangelist and went on tour in the US faking all this sort of thing, and the miracle healing.

It showed the gullible and vulnerable people who are taken in by this and the true shyster nature of those that do this in perfectly equal measures.

Faith - good
Nurturing faith positively - good
Exploiting faith for any reason, especially avarice - so very, very bad

They should have some laws for scams that should apply to people that do these things.

One of the biggest TV evangelists, his name escapes me, actually closed down the crystal cathedral awhile back. I think I read the Orange County Catholic Diocese bought it. Between the time of the closing and purchase the guy had limos show up at the church so his parishioners could donate food to his "poor" family because his wife was "ill".

"A fool and his money are soon parted." People do indeed believe out of desperation. It's happened to me - not in religion, but real estate, where a few people and myself didn't perform our due diligence, and got royally ripped off in a deal. Like many failed real estate deals, these religious hucksters promise huge returns on your dollar. It's actually based on the bible, so gullible people think that if they don't get their return, they musn't have enough faith. But they continue to line the pockets of these rip off artists.
