    What would the Dude do?

That is the central spiritual, if not theological, concern of the Church of the Latter-day Dude, the totally not-fake religion based on the ethos of Jeffrey "The Dude" Lebowski, the slacker savior of Joel and Ethan Coen's 1998 cult masterpiece "The Big Lebowski."......

....In fact, in the Dudeist tradition, Jesus Christ is considered to be a proto-Dude or prophet, along with various other gurus of grooviness such as the Buddha, Walt Whitman, Bob Marley, Jerry Garcia and Emily Dickinson.

  • Yet another christian looking for a "Bible" by which to run their lives quote "I find the Dudeist philosophy to be a splendid complement to my Chrisitan faith".

I find many christains attempt to christianise Dudeism, rather than Dudeify christianity.

to which I mean the christians shoe horn the Dudeism so it fits their christian point of view, rather than just getting on with things.

it's from semantics that you get fanatics.

I disagree - fanaticism comes from within. Language is just a convenient medium to justify it.

I was thinking along the lines of, I can't carry a handkerchief on the sabbath because that is work, but I can wear it around my waist because then it is a belt, type semantics.

  • I have kinda had it with Christianity, I guess it matters where you are, but the US is being over run by the worst they have to offer. I agree with Meekon, why do they need to Biblify Dudeism? The Bible is one of the worst parts of that belief.

There are few on the "inside" who seem to have had enough of the greed, lies, hypocrisy and bullshit.........

In my opinion (Trey Smith), the issue is not "How Much Money Someone Makes," it is the model of how they do business. How people chose to gain their income tells you everything about their character. There are some tremendous ministries and non-profits that take in great deals of money, helping countless lives... and then there are snakes in the mix.... maybe to keep us on our toes. The key is to know the difference.

The Crouches have invited criticism and scorn in the past with their lavish lifestyle and flamboyant appearance, but the new lawsuit paints a portrait of a thoroughly corrupt organization. The suit centers on Paul Crouch's granddaughter Brittany Koper, a former executive at TBN who was fired after she blew the whistle on alleged fraudulent and criminal activities. She claims that she subsequently faced massive retaliation, including threats of "physical and lethal violence."

Trinity Broadcasting Network's (TBN) shocking list of expensive secrets were brought into full public veiw this week in a lawsuit filed 02/23/2012. Trinity Broadcasting Network (TBN) faces issues such as a $50 million jet through "a scam loan to a shill corporation" for the personal use of the Crouches; a $100,000 motor home purchased by Trinity as a mobile residence for Jan Crouch's dogs.

"multiple residential estates" falsely reported as guest homes or church parsonages to avoid income disclosures; meal expenses of up to a half-million dollars per company director; "personal chauffeurs compensated with Trinity funds under the guise of medical payments;" and "multiple cover-ups of sexual and criminal scandals."

    See -

Would you by a used car from this?.....

I am very much against the practice of replacing the word "god" with the words "The Dude" in what ever text and then pretending that that is what Dudeism is about. Or any other variant religion wise on that theme you may choose.

I'm also much against writing anything down:

One for the simple reason it will come back to you in some malevolent idiots hands them chanting "But you said this!"

Two for a very similar reason that people would much rather have the thinking done for them and have something they can point to and say "but it says this here!"

It is easy to say you understand the sound of one hand clapping because you read it in a book, but what does it really mean?

The practice of patience guards us against losing our presence of mind. It enables us to remain undisturbed, even when the situation is really difficult. It gives us a certain amount of inner peace, which allows us some self-control, so that we can choose to respond to situations in an appropriate and compassionate manner, rather than being driven by our disturbing emotions.

Dude! You got to get your own ball and have it fitted to your hand. Unless the ball fits perfectly you cannot expect to roll well with a house ball.
